A young man from Iowa who had only recently graduated from high school is being remembered as “a tremendous kid” after he passed away after drowning in a lake in the country.

There was a swimmer who “went under the water and had not resurfaced,” according to a press release issued by the Appanoose County Sheriff’s Office. Crews rushed to the incident at Rathbun Lake near Moravia on Wednesday, June 26, after discovering that the swimmer was 17 years old.

After the teenager was reported missing, his corpse was discovered in water that was around 15 to 20 feet deep approximately one hour later.

According to information provided by CBS station KCCI and ABC affiliate KTVO, the victim has been named as Aydon Beeson, who resides in Centerville and just graduated from Central Centerville High School.

According to the Kansas City Chronicle, the young guy was regarded as “a natural leader” by the tennis instructor at Beeson, Tyler Baze. Baze said that children would draw around him.

The explanation that Baze provided was that “He led by example,” and that he was not going to ask his colleagues to do anything that he was not prepared to undertake himself.

Beeson participated in both football and tennis, and he was chosen as the Prom King by his classmates, according to a statement released by Centerville Community Schools as well. Additionally, he worked as a maintenance worker for the school district throughout the summer months, “assisting in the preparation of our buildings for each falling season.”

What was said in the statement was, “Words cannot express the depth of the sadness felt by the school community in this horrible tragedy.” As they struggle to come to terms with this terrible incident, we are keeping Ayden’s family and friends in our thoughts.

In accordance with the Kansas City Chronicle, a vigil was conducted on Thursday at the football field where Beeson had previously played.

“I know so many people in this community that they were going to be (at the vigil) no matter what,” Baze said, “and it’s just a testament to the kind of kid and person that he was.”

Based on the information provided by KCCI, counseling services are being provided by Centerville Community Schools.

According to the sheriff’s office, an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Beeson’s loss is now underway.
