It is just Murders in the Building that is going to land in Hollywood!
On August 27, the fourth season of the mystery-comedy will premiere. The series’ central trio of true crime podcasters, Charles-Haden Savage (played by Steve Martin), Oliver Putnam (played by Martin Short), and Mabel Mora (played by Selena Gomez), will travel to Los Angeles to supervise the adaptation of their story to the big screen by a Hollywood studio.
There was a first-look behind-the-scenes picture from the forthcoming season that was posted by Hulu in June 2024. The photo revealed who some of the newly recruited cast members will be playing in the future season.
As Hollywood actors who have been cast in the movie version of Only Murders in the Building, Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy, and Zach Galifianakis are all portraying themselves in the fourth season of the show. The role of movie Mabel is played by Eva Longoria, while Levy portrays the character of Charles, and Galifianakis plays an Oscar-worthy Oliver.
Only Murders concluded its third season by not only solving one murder but also presenting another murder as a cliffhanger to hint at what is to come. This choice was made in accordance with the series’ name and the tradition that has been established up to this point.
The “murder in the building” this time around was really Jane Lynch’s character, Sazz, who is recognized in the plot as being Charles’ stunt double from his time on the popular crime drama Brazzos from the 1990s. Sazz is revealed to be the one responsible for the murder.
And thus, will the murder of Sazz be the event that brings the three people to Los Angeles? Or problems that are of the heart?
Tobert, the character played by Jesse Williams, made an intriguing suggestion to Mabel at the conclusion of the third season, asking her to leave New York and join him in the city of Los Angeles. Fans of the program will recall that this was an intriguing idea. A similar offer was made to Oliver by his own love interest, the actress Loretta Durkin, played by Meryl Streep. After making a successful debut in Oliver’s musical, Loretta Durkin chose a position in Hollywood.
Despite the fact that Mabel and Oliver originally declined both offers, with Oliver stating that he is only able to deal with Los Angeles in tiny doses, Entertainment Tonight (ET) announced at the beginning of 2024 that the three of them would eventually end up on the West Coast. In order to find out why and how, we will need to remain tuned.
The unlikely trio of co-stars of OMITB will, of course, return for new adventures and investigations in the fourth season. Martin will reprise his role as Charles-Haden Savage, a former crime drama star; Short will return as Oliver Putnam, a hapless theater producer; and Gomez will reprise her role as Mabel Mora, a young artist who has found companionship and professional success with the two men who are almost fifty years her senior.
In addition, it was announced in February 2024 that Meryl Streep will be reprising her role as Loretta Durkin for the fourth season of OMITB.
“Meryl is returning for the next season because she had a tremendous time,” Karey Burke, president of 20th Television, said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter’s TV Top Five podcast.
In season 3, the woman played by Meryl Streep was considered a possible suspect in the murder of Ben Glenroy, who was played by Paul Rudd. Streep’s character is Oliver’s love interest. However, at the conclusion, it was finally discovered that she was innocent of the murder. Additionally, after making a fantastic debut onstage in Oliver’s musical, Loretta took a position as an actress in Los Angeles, which left their relationship in a state of uncertainty.
In addition to the award season legend, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who just won an Academy Award for her role as Donna Williams, a police investigator, will be returning for the fourth season of the show. Randolph is coming off of winning the award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in The Holdovers.

An additional prominent celebrity, McCarthy, has been cast in the forthcoming season, although the specific part that she will play has not yet been released. Additional cast members for the fourth season include Molly Shannon, Richard Kind, Kumail Nanjiani, Desmin Borges, Siena Werber, Lilian Rebelo, Richard Kind, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Catherine Cohen, and Jin Ha.
In March of 2024, the OMITB Instagram account started posting some entertaining behind-the-scenes images from the set of the fourth season; however, there has not yet been an official trailer produced for the show.
Due to the fact that both Oliver and Mabel discovered romantic motivation to spend some time on the West Coast in the season 3 finale, Entertainment Tonight (ET) revealed at the beginning of 2024 that at least a portion of the fourth season would take place in Los Angeles. This is in contrast to the fact that the first three seasons were set in New York City.
Craig Erwich, the president of Disney Television Group, provided further details on the nature of that situation when he was interviewed by Deadline at the time.
“Well, I’m very excited to see Steve [Martin], Martin [Short] and Selena [Gomez] take a little break from the apartment building and come to Los Angeles,” Erwich said to reporters. “So in the same way that John Hoffman used the canvas of Broadway to tell what I think was one of the most unique seasons you’ve ever seen, the same unique Only Murders take will be applied to Los Angeles, which I’m really excited about.”
Following the completion of production for a number of months, the OMITB Instagram account marked the conclusion of season 4 by posting a charming video on June 11, 2024, which featured Martin, Short, and Gomez taking their last bows of the season.
