Minna-Maaria Antikainen, who was the first transgender figure skater in the world, had a moment of disappointment when she competed for the first time in the European Figure Skating Championships in Finland. She had previously been known as Markku-Pekka Antikainen, but at the age of 49, she converted to a female identity and began participating in figure skating.

She was performing at the opening ceremony when she slipped and collapsed only a few seconds into her act. However, a female hostess who was carrying the Finnish flag came to her aid immediately after the incident. Antikainen had spent eight years preparing, practicing for five hours each week, and competing in other skating competitions, despite the fact that he had experienced this setback.

“Just be you” was the slogan that was used during the European Figure Skating Championships, which was an effort to encourage diversity and inclusiveness. Despite this, same-sex couples are still not allowed in the sport, and there is no category for skaters who do not fit into either of the two genders. In the sport of figure skating, it is desired that more nations would work toward achieving equality and representing diversity.
