After the baggage of a customer flying on Spirit Airlines went lost, the traveler eventually discovered it at the residence of an airport employee.

at an interview with Florida’s Local 10, Paola Garcia said that she had been required to check her pink hard-shell bag prior to her trip on March 3, but the suitcase never made it to Carousel 4 at Terminal 4 of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

The statement was made by Garcia to the outlet. “In my mind, I’m thinking I need my computer because I go to the university, and I need my computer no matter what,” Garcia said. At the very least, I had been sitting there for two hours.

Garcia asserts that she was informed by the airline that her belongings were being delivered to her residence; but, the next morning, she noticed that her Apple Watch was transmitting a signal from a residence located in Fort Lauderdale.

On that particular day, Garcia made the decision to go to the location because she needed her computer for a test. While she was there, she claims that she observed luggage “everywhere” on the property. A video of the suitcase was taken by her, and she then called 911.

When I arrived to the police station, the first thing they said to me was, “What are you doing here? According to Garcia, who spoke to Local 10, “What you are doing here is extremely risky.”

Junior Bazile, who worked for a business that manages retail establishments at the airport, was identified as the person who was responsible for the crime by the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Further investigation revealed that Bazile was employed on the day of the heist.

According to the allegations, Bazile, who is 29 years old, was seen searching through Garcia’s bag in the rear of the shop at the airport where he works. The photographs were collected by the police.

Bazile was taken into custody on March 8 and charged with grand theft, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, which verified this information to PEOPLE.

An Apple MacBook, an iPad, an Apple Watch, many pieces of jewelry, high-end women’s apparel, toiletries, and a luggage were among the goods that were taken, as stated in the arrest warrant that was acquired by PEOPLE.

The following is a statement that was made by a representative of Spirit Airlines to PEOPLE: “Regarding this particular case: even though we are not aware of any evidence that any Spirit employee was involved, we issued a reimbursement check to the Guest as a courtesy on May 20, 2024.”

Local 10 received a statement from a spokeswoman for Paradies Shops, the firm that Bazile works for at the airport. The statement said, “Paradies Lagardère takes this matter very seriously.” The termination of this employee took place as soon as the occurrence was brought to their attention. Due to the fact that there is an active investigation by the police, we have cooperated with the inquiry and strongly suggest that you get in touch with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department for more information.

The recent occurrence of an airline customer taking things into their own hands after having their personal belongings stolen is not the first instance of this kind in recent times.

In January, NBC4 Washington reported that a lady whose laptop was stolen at Dulles International Airport was able to locate the thief herself by using his IP address. This occurred after the thief attempted to blackmail her on Instagram using the platform.
