It is never too late to be married, as shown by a couple who are each one hundred years old.

As reported by Fox News, Marjorie Fiterman, 102, and Bernie Littman, 100, both of Philadelphia, sealed the marriage on Sunday, May 19, at the senior care home where they had their first encounter after beginning a romance almost ten years earlier.

It was a coincidence that the couple’s first date occurred on the same day that one of Littman’s great-granddaughters was born, according to the family of the pair, who had met at a costume party held at the assisted living facility.

According to Sarah Sicherman, Littman’s granddaughter, their family was “thrilled” to learn that their grandfather had finally found a friend “to do activities and spend time with.” This information was brought to the attention of Fox News. She continued by saying that they were “so fortunate to have found each other” and that they “support” each other, particularly now that the COVID-19 epidemic had begun.

But when Littman, who had previously been married to a lady called Bernice for 65 years, told his family that he wanted to be married again, they stated that it had come as a “surprise” since they “assumed they would just live out their days status quo.” Littman had been married to Bernice for 65 years.

Rabbi Adam Wohlberg, who has been following the couple’s tale over the years, said to Fox News that the pair had not originally intended to be married, but that they “eventually” reached a point “where being not just close friends — but husband and wife — felt like the right step to take.”

During their ceremony, he said that he had made the decision to exclude the typical advise that he would offer to couples on marriage since they had “already amassed a lifetime of wisdom and experience” and their “attitudes, feelings, and opinions” were already fully “formulated.”

He continued by saying, “That is not to imply that you will not continue to increase your knowledge and grow as individuals.” On the other hand, I believe it is reasonable to state that what each of you knows and understands about the other is precisely what the future contains for you and your spouse. As for the qualities that you have come to realize you love about one another, well, those things are not going to alter any time soon.

He further said that he informed Fiterman, who had been married to a guy called Morris before his loss in 1999, that when Bernie “appeared,” “you realized that someone incredibly special had come into your life.” Fiterman had been married to Morris in the past.

In spite of the fact that they met and fell in love at the senior living home, Wohlberg said that it was quite possible that they had met decades previously, when they were both students at the University of Pennsylvania at the same time. Nevertheless, they were pursuing distinct degrees in distinct areas, and it is quite probable that they were not acquainted with one another at the time.

As a joke, he suggested that the two of them may possibly be featured on “the cover of the alumni magazine’s next edition,”

As a result of the couple’s combined age of 202 years, it is possible that they have possibly set a new record for the Guinness World Records. According to Fox News, the previous record holders were Doreen and George Kirby of England. When they tied the knot on June 13, 2015, they were 194 years old together, which was the record at the time.

Sicherman provided the source with information, “Our application is pending, but we believe it is the Guinness World Record for Oldest Aggregate Age Couple to Marry, by about eight years.”
