Kelly Rowland is speaking out after participating in a heated confrontation with security on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday. The conversation went viral.
She described the incident in an interview with the Associated Press that took place on Thursday, May 23, at the amfAR Cannes Gala in France. The conversation took place after a video showing the former member of Destiny’s Child addressing a security officer in a serious manner on the red carpet of the Marcello Mio premiere went viral on the internet.
It is clear to the lady what took occurred. According to Rowland, who is 43 years old, he is aware of what took place. “I have a boundary, and I stand by those boundaries, and that is it.”
“And there were other women that attended that carpet who did not quite look like me, and they didn’t get scolded or pushed off or told to get off,” according to her statement. “I stood my ground, and she felt like she had to stand hers, but I stood my ground.”
The Cannes Film Festival has been contacted by PEOPLE in an effort to get a statement.
Rowland and the security officer had a conversation on the stairway of the Palais des Festivals, which is where the event took place. There seemed to be other persons who were accompanying the singer of “Dilemma” who were causing interference; yet, the guard continued to move them down the carpet.
There was a film that Rowland appeared in earlier this year called Mea Culpa, which was directed by Tyler Perry. In February, when the sensual legal thriller was made available on Netflix, she shared with PEOPLE that her role in the film “was quite an experience.”
“I remember being very nervous when I read the script, and I remember thinking about everything that an erotic thriller possesses, and that made me very intimidated,” she remarked at the time. “It was a very intimidating experience for me.” “And then all of a sudden, I received a phone call from a friend of mine who asked me, ‘You know, Kel, if it doesn’t scare you, what’s the purpose of doing it?'”
In light of this, I made a beeline for it. I was able to solve every problem. Tyler was absolutely incredible and played a significant role throughout the whole of this process, and Trevante Rhodes, who played my co-star, was a delight to collaborate with. As Rowland said, “I was extremely fortunate.”
