A automobile accident that occurred early on Saturday morning in Pomona, California, resulted in the loss of Richard Priem, who was also known by the name Rico.

In response to the heartbreaking news that a member of the 9-1-1 crew was murdered in a vehicle accident after working a late 14-hour shift on the procedural drama, Angela Bassett is expressing her thoughts and feelings.

During her conversation with ET at the 2024 Disney/ABC Upfront event held at the Javits Center in New York City, the 65-year-old actress, who is a star on the popular Fox show, expressed her condolences to the family of Richard Priem, the man who worked as a grip on the show and was a member of the IATSE Local 80 crew union. Priem was known by the nickname Rico.

We would want to express our sincere sympathies to his friends and family,” Bassett shared with ET. “The studio, 9-1-1, we all send our heartfelt condolences.” All I can say is that it was a very, very sad time. Without a doubt, it has a profound impact on all of us.

The actors and crew of 9-1-1 have gone through many significant life events during the course of their careers, including births, marriages, and, unfortunately, a loss in the family. The show is now in its seventh season, and the cast and staff have experienced several milestone milestones themselves.

“This is the very first time that we have experienced loss. “We have births, you know, we have weddings, and now to experience this,” Bassett stated before adding that the cast and crew recalled Priem when he was working on the set. To put it simply, we needed to pause for a minute, just for a moment, and just for a moment. Because we are aware that we will miss him, but we are also aware that his family will miss him much more, we concluded that it was essential for us to join together and provide whatever assistance we are able to provide to his family.

In addition, Bassett said that when the cast and crew gathered on the set to honor Priem, “so many beautiful words were spoken of him.”

An overnight shoot that took place on site in Pomona, California, resulted in Priem’s loss in a highway accident that occurred early on Saturday morning at roughly 4:27 a.m. It was reported by the California Highway Patrol that Priem’s Toyota Highlander “left the roadway for unknown reasons, went up an embankment, and flipped onto its roof.” Even though Priem was declared deceased at the site of the accident, the inquiry into what caused the collision is still ongoing.

“On behalf of the studio and everyone at 9-1-1, we send our sincere and deepest condolences to Rico Priem’s family and friends,” a spokesman for 20th Television stated in a statement sent to ET. “We are deeply saddened by the news of Rico’s passing.”

The passing of Priem was brought up in a post that was made on social media by one of his coworkers, Nina Moskol. In the post, she said that they had just finished working together on Thursday night.

“He was on the cusp of retirement, with his paperwork filed,” the memorial that was written for him read. “He had his already prosperous life planned out for retirement, which included spending time with his wife, seeing his grand-nephew develop, riding his cherished Harley, and even clutching still in order to maintain his connections with his pals. It was because he was so excited about what he had discovered about retirement that he want to instruct others at the local level about the ins and outs of retirement.
