A Mother’s Day event that Meghan Markle attended in Nigeria with Prince Harry was the occasion for which she choose to wear a garment that had significant value for her.
The Duchess of Sussex, who is 42 years old, donned the same yellow flowing dress that she wore for Prince Archie’s first birthday in 2020, as shown in photographs from the couple’s Netflix docuseries. The clothing was worn at a reception that took place at the State Governor House in Lagos on May 12. On the sixth of May, Archie had his fifth birthday, and his family celebrated the event in a discreet manner before Meghan and Harry left on their voyage.
PEOPLE were present at the occasion, which was sponsored by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos, and General Christopher Gwabin Musa OFR, the Chief of Defense Staff of Nigeria. Both of these individuals extended an invitation to the couple to go to Nigeria. A shawl was presented to Meghan as a gift by the governor’s wife upon their arrival at the royal residence.
They addressed topics such as mental health, the Invictus Games, and their trip to the nation when they were at the mansion of the governor.
“For Prince Harry, this trip to the country has been very interesting and informative,” Sanwo-Olu said. “There is a lot that he has seen, and he is still taking in a lot of information. The variety and the magnitude of how huge our nation is, as well as the ways in which we continue to ensure that we live together in peace and harmony, are some of the things that we hope he will take away from an experience like this.
The offer to come back was extended by Governor Sanwo-Olu, who said that he had extended it. “We are happy for what they are doing for military personnel and mental health issues,” he said, and he also discussed the need of rallying support in order to make sure that “people who require the support, both in the military and private sectors, can seek it.” The stigmatization and the denial of the fact that it exists are two of the topics that we discussed.
The Invictus Games were another topic of discussion, as was the question of when we would be able to host them in Nigeria, so that the genuine competitiveness of the Nigerian people might be represented in that manner. Sanwo-Olu expressed his excitement and happiness and stated, “On behalf of all of us in Lagos, we are excited, and we are happy to have you with us this afternoon.”

As a result of the fact that it was a reflection of a historic visit that Prince Harry’s parents, King Charles and Princess Diana, made to Lagos in 1990 as part of an official state visit, the conclusion of their tour bore a particular importance.
During their official tour, which was their first time visiting the African country, the pair supported Prince Harry’s Invictus Games and lobbied for the understanding of mental health issues. This was the first time that Nigeria participated in the Invictus Games, which took place in 2017. Through his participation, Harry brought to light the crucial role that sports play in bringing together soldiers and their families and in mending them.
Meghan just found out that she is of Nigerian descent, and her visit is also a celebration of that revelation. Through the use of a genealogical test in the year 2022, she discovered that she is 43% Nigerian.
During the first day of the GEANCO Foundation’s first mental health summit, Meghan made a heartfelt statement to the students of Lightway Academy in Abuja. She stated, “I see myself in all of you.” This was Meghan’s first trip with the pupils.
On May 11, Meghan commented, “I am very overwhelmed.” She was participating in a panel discussion on women in leadership positions. To begin, I would want to express my gratitude to each and every one of you for the kind and inviting manner in which you have welcomed my husband and I to this nation, which is also known as my homeland.
