Munn disclosed her diagnosis of breast cancer to the public in the month of March.
For the first time since she disclosed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, Olivia Munn is making her voice heard in public.
During the month of March, the actress from New Girl shared on Instagram her journey through the unexpected diagnosis of Luminal B cancer, which she characterized as “aggressive” and “fast moving” in both breasts the previous year.
“In February of 2023, in an effort to be proactive about my health, I took a genetic test that checks you for 90 different cancer genes,” she stated in a statement that was released. I had negative results for all of them, including BRCA, which is the most well-known gene associated with breast cancer. Just now, my sister Sara had also tested negative for the same thing. Over the phone, we gave each other a high-five and called each other. A normal mammography was also performed on me during the same winter. Following that, I was given a diagnosis of breast cancer two months later.
Over the course of ten months, Munn said that as a consequence of this, she was subjected to a number of procedures, including biopsies, surgeries, a double mastectomy, and reconstructive surgery.
As part of her interview with People, Munn reveals that she has not been required to endure chemotherapy or radiation treatments up to this point. However, she has begun hormone suppression medication in order to reduce the likelihood that the cancer would recur in the future. The actress, who is 43 years old, claims that she is now experiencing menopause that was triggered by medical treatment.
“I’m constantly thinking it’s hot, my hair is thinning, and I’m tired a lot,” she says in the most recent issue of People magazine. “I’m tired a lot.”
The actress recounts the short period of time that passed between the time she emerged from postpartum after the birth of her son, Malcolm, whom she shares with John Mulaney, and the time she received the news that she had cancer. She said that she did not feel as if she had enough time to return to the body that she had known previously.
“I took some more time to start to work out and eat in a more healthy way, after my postpartum lifted and then I started feeling like myself again, and then I started feeling better,” according to her interview with People. What followed was the diagnosis, followed by the realization that the diagnosis indicates that my body is about to undergo yet another transformation. I haven’t really felt like I’ve been back in the body that I knew before, and I really didn’t have a minute to catch my breath. I haven’t really had the chance to catch my breath. However, I have no problem with it. In all honesty, it is, and I am overjoyed that I was able to get through it.
As Munn comes out on the other side of her cancer diagnosis, she claims that it is Malcolm, who is two years old, who helps her to take her mind off of the disease.
“When I’m with him, it’s the only time my brain doesn’t think about being sick,” she explains further. “I can’t wait to be with him,” she said. In addition, it helps to put a lot of things into perspective. I am still his mother, even if my body undergoes a transformation. I am still his mother even if I get hot flashes. No matter what happens, I will always be his mother. As far as I am concerned, it is the most important thing. It’s a privilege to be here for him.
Since the year 2021, Munn and Mulaney have been in a relationship. The former cast member of Saturday Night Live extended his appreciation to Munn for her courageous perseverance in the article in which he revealed her condition.
“Thank you for fighting so hard to be here for us,” which is what Mulaney said in his letter. “Malc and I adore you.”
In spite of the fact that she was undergoing treatment and having operations, Munn gives thanks to the comedian for stepping up and being there to provide support and care for her baby.
According to Munn, who was interviewed by People, “It would have felt like climbing an iceberg without him.” “Being a very hands-on parent and traveling to and from the hospital—taking Malcolm to the park, putting him to sleep, driving to Cedars-Sinai, hanging out with me, returning home, putting Malcolm to bed, and coming back to me—I don’t believe he had a minute to himself. He was always on the go. On top of that, he did it all with joy.
