NICU nurse Katrina Mullen encountered an obstacle that was impossible to overcome when she was attempting to locate a family for a woman who had just given birth to triplets and was only 14 years old. It has now gotten global recognition, and hundreds of people are in awe of her life-saving gesture. Her extraordinary choice to adopt the adolescent mother, Shariya Small, and her infants has attracted international notice.

At Community Hospital North in Indianapolis, where she does her job as a neonatal critical care nurse, Katrina is well-known for her kind nature. Her reputation for going above and beyond reached new heights when she adopted Shariya and her preterm triplets, Serenitee, Samari, and Sarayah, who were born at only 26 weeks of gestation.
During the five months that Katrina and Shariya were hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where the young mother often visited by herself, the attachment between them blossomed. More over two years after they had first met, Katrina made the decision to adopt Shariya and the triplets. She did this because she was aware of how difficult it would be to get a foster home for Shariya.

In the beginning, Shariya, who was in the eighth grade when she gave birth to the triplets, concealed her life from others. Nevertheless, a link was established when she became aware of Katrina’s own experience as a young mother who had given up a child for adoption earlier in her life. Katrina remained in contact with them after they were discharged, providing assistance and finally finding a foster home for Shariya and the triplets for a total of 688 days.

While this was going on, Katrina was able to watch the difficult living circumstances and health issues that one of the triplets was experiencing. After being evacuated from their house, Shariya and the infants voiced their wish to live with Katrina. Shariya was also there during this time.
Now that Katrina has adopted Shariya and the triplets, the adoption process is over. A GoFundMe campaign that Katrina started in order to assist Shariya in caring for her expanding family has successfully generated more than one hundred thousand dollars.

Having a loving heart is necessary in order to become an adoptive parent, as seen by the beautiful tales of Katrina Mullen and others like Jerry Windle. However, the obstacles that come along with adoptive parenting may be conquered with compassion and persistence.
