Shakira is taking pleasure in her newfound autonomy.

During an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, the singer known for her song “She Wolf” said that she is a single mother and that being away from Barcelona has been beneficial to the development of her artistic abilities.

Shakira struggled to find the appropriate balance between being a partner to Gerard Piqué, whom she dated for 11 years until their breakup in 2022, and being a mom to their two boys, Milan, who is 11 years old, and Sasha, who is 9 years old.

“It was kind of like a sometimes a love-hate relationship because every time I had to be pulled into the studio to do my work, I failed,” she says in her memoir. “I had the impression that I was abandoning my family,” she said. There were moments when I found myself completely disinterested in it. I feel guilty, if you must know. I had conflicting emotions.

Shakira has been living in Miami for some time now, and now that her children are older, things are different. “Even though it’s more challenging because now I’m in charge of these two kids, these two babies that depend on me so much,” she said. Due to the fact that I am a single mother, I do not have a spouse who is there at home to assist me with anything.
The success of the Latin-pop star’s music career, she says, may be attributed to the fact that she is a solo artist.

“One might say that it’s sort of a blessing that I don’t have a spouse since that…I don’t see why that was bringing me down, guy,” she adds. Now I have the need to go to work. The need to compose music is strong. The need to create music is strong. My need for it is something I didn’t experience before, but now it’s a compulsive urge.

The album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (Women Don’t Cry Anymore), which is Shakira’s 12th studio album, is scheduled to be released this coming Friday. After seven years, she will finally be releasing her album with this one.

In a press release, it was said that the album is a demonstration of “Shakira’s resilience and strength as well as the power of music to transform even the most trying experiences into precious moments.”

Creating this collection of work has been a process that may be described as alchemical. Throughout the process of composing each song, I was reworking myself. According to a statement released by the artist who is responsible for the song “Hips Don’t Lie,” “while singing them, my tears transformed into diamonds, and my vulnerability into strength.”

There will be a total of sixteen tracks on the album, including eight songs that have never been heard before, a remix, and seven singles that have been published in the past. Some of these singles are “Music Sessions Vol. 53” with Bizarrap, “TQG” with Karol G, “Te Felicito” with Rauw Alejandro, and “Copa Vacía” with Manuel Turizo.
