When Mara appeared at the 74th Berlinale International feature Festival on Friday to promote her new feature, La Cocina, she shared the news with the audience.
While posing for photographs on the carpet, Mara, who was wearing a gown that stopped at the floor and did not have any straps, held her developing baby bulge.
River is already the child of The Carol actress, who is 38 years old, and Phoenix, who is 49 years old. River Phoenix, the late brother of the Joker actor, who passed away in 1993 as a result of an overdose on drugs, was the inspiration for the couple’s firstborn child.
The audience was informed of the significant name that was selected for their first child by the Russian director Victor Kossakovsky, who made the announcement to the crowd when he was presenting a film at the Zurich Film Festival in September of 2020.
During that time period, Kossakovsky said, “He just got a baby, by the way, a beautiful son named River.”
The normally quiet pair, who saw each other for the first time in 2012 on the set of the science fiction drama Her, have managed to keep their personal lives mostly hidden and out of the public eye.
During the time that they were working on Mary Magdalene together in 2016, they began dating. They subsequently made their debut on the red carpet at the 70th annual Cannes Film Festival in May of 2017, when they were photographed holding hands.
In 2019, the pair managed to keep their engagement a secret.
During an interview with Vanity Fair, Phoenix discussed their connection and said that he had the impression that Mara detested him when they were working together. However, he subsequently discovered that she was just bashful. They became friends very fast, and the rest, as they say, is history.
“She’s the only girl I ever looked up on the internet,” according to him. It was merely that we were pals, buddies via email. Never before had I done it. Never investigated a girl on the internet.

about Mara, she has been rather silent about their connection; nevertheless, she has divulged information about her life as a mother and the process of raising her son with Phoenix.
When Mara made an appearance on the LaunchLeft podcast, she discussed their “creative household” and how the couple has managed to strike a balance in their roles as parents in a family with two actors.
“It feels like a creative household, we’re constantly talking about creative things,” according to her. Due to the fact that I did not have a job for the first three and a half years that we were together, the setting does not have the vibe of a two-actor home. To put it simply, I have only worked once or twice while we have been together, and the one time I did work was quite brief and insignificant.
The representatives of Mara and Phoenix have been contacted by TooFab for a response.
