‘American Idol’ judge Perry made the announcement this week that she would be departing the program after serving as a judge for seven seasons.
Jordin Sparks is in, and Katy Perry is going to be leaving shortly.
Following the revelation that Perry would be departing the reality singing competition after seven seasons, Sparks offered to take Perry’s position as one of the judges on American Idol. She did so by raising her hand (by emoji) and expressing her willingness to take over the role. On Friday, Sparks went to X to convey her enthusiasm at the opportunity to perform.
American Idol was the recipient of her tweet, which included the following: “Oh hiiii @AmericanIdol – I hear a place opened up at the judges table! Putting my name in the hat is what I’m doing!
During the sixth season of American Idol in 2007, Sparks made history by being the youngest competitor in the organization’s history to win the competition. She was just 17 years old at the time. Sparks’s first studio album, which she named after herself, was released not long after, and it was met with both commercial success and acclaim from critics.

Additionally, the singer, who is 34 years old, released her latest song, titled “Call My Name,” in the month of October. The next week, she released the sultry music video, which was directed by Alfredo Flores. This was the moment when she pushed things to a second level. Sparks and her husband, Dana Isaiah, are the only people featured in the song’s video, which is a basic but seductive representation of the song’s very personal lyrics.
After Perry made the unexpected news on Jimmy Kimmel Live that this next season, which will be her seventh and the show’s 22nd season, would be her last season, Sparks is putting her name up as a candidate for the forthcoming vacancy.
“This fall, in September, I’m going to be doing this huge music festival in Brazil called Rock in Rio… so I think this will probably be my last season for Idol,” said Perry, much to the surprise of the crowd. “Rock in Rio” is a music event that takes place in Brazil.
“I mean, I love Idol so much,” according to her, “It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I need to feel that pulse of my own beat.”
In March of 2018, Perry became a member of the American Idol in the sixteenth season.
An embarrassed Perry said, “Well, they’ll find out tonight!” in response to Kimmel’s question, “What did Luke and Lionel say” regarding her departure from the company.
The debut of the 22nd season of American Idol will take place on Sunday at 8 p.m. Eastern Time (ET) on ABC, and it will be accessible on Hulu the following day.
