It was announced on Saturday that Tom Wilkinson, a British actor who was most remembered for his performance in The Full Monty, has passed away. He was 75 years old.

In a statement to People, his family confirmed that he passed away at home, surrounded by those who loved him with affection. For the first time, the news was reported by the BBC.

According to the statement, “The family requests that they be given privacy at this time.”

According to IMDB, Wilkinson was a very versatile and acclaimed actor due to the fact that he collected up 130 credits throughout the course of his career.

It is noteworthy that he played the role of Gerald in the film The Full Monty, which was released in 1997 and tells the story of a group of jobless steelworkers who “form a male striptease act,” as stated by IMDB.

In 1998, Wilkinson was awarded the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) for outstanding performance by an actor in a supporting role for his work in the well-known comedy. This year, Wilkinson resumed his role as Gerald after the relaunch of The Full Monty by Disney+ for a comparable miniseries consisting of six episodes.

His performances in the films Michael Clayton (2007), In the Bedroom (2001) and Shakespeare in Love (1998), as well as the television series Cold Enough for Snow and Martin Chuzzlewit, all got him nominations for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).

He was nominated for two Academy Awards: the first for best performance by an actor in a supporting role for the film Michael Clayton, which starred George Clooney, and the second for best actor in a starring role for the film In the Bedroom, which was a thriller.

For his performance as Benjamin Franklin in the film John Adams, which was released in 2008, Wilkinson was also awarded an Emmy for supporting actor. In addition, he was nominated for three further Emmys, one of which was for his performance in the 2011 film The Kennedys, in which he played Joe Kennedy, the father of John F. Kennedy, another historical figure.

Sense and Sensibility, Rush Hour, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind are just a few of the other important films that he has worked on.

Wilkinson received his training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, as stated by the BBC. His first notable appearance was in the 1986 film First Among Equals, which also featured his wife, Diana Hardcastle.

After being married in 1988, the pair went on to act in further projects together, such as the 2014 film Good People and The Kennedys, in which Hardcastle, who is now 74 years old, portrayed the role of Rose Kennedy, Wilkinson’s on-screen wife, according to the BBC.

Alice and Molly are the names of the two daughters that Hardcastle and Wilkinson had.
