Rob Lowe is a podcaster, actor, director, and producer based in the United States. In the 1980s, he was a member of the Brat Pack and became famous for his role as a teen idol. According to The Guardian, Lowe was quoted as saying, “I’ve gotten to the point where I’ve come to believe that it’s more fun to play politicians than it is to actually be them.” I’ve been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to speak about the topics that are important to me on ‘The West Wing’ and ‘Brothers & Sisters,’ where there is none of the nasty mudslinging or public scrutiny that you have to deal with in politics.
Although he is most known for his dramatic parts, Lowe is most at ease in front of the camera. He has experience performing in a wide range of musical styles. “If you want to be successful in comedy, you have to be ready to laugh at yourself, you know what I mean? “I take comedy very seriously, and if you want people to take you seriously as a comedian, you can’t ever take yourself seriously,” Lowe added. “I take comedy very seriously.”
Even though he doesn’t take himself too seriously, the singer is grateful for all he’s done in his life. Lowe said:
“I saw that People magazine has a list of the top 10 adolescent idols of all time, and I’m included on that list among the likes of Elvis Presley, James Dean, and Michael Jackson. To say the least, I’m pleased with how it turned out. It’s quite awesome. In addition, several of the newer actors, such as Robert Pattinson and Zac Efron, are featured on it. Those individuals are picking up the torch and running with it.”
Lowe continued by saying, “I do my best to live in the present moment.” One of my primary objectives is to get better at living in the here and now. This is one of the reasons why I like going to the theater, and it’s also one of the reasons why I enjoy golf so much. If you’re not fully present in the moment, your golf game will suffer as a result. It’s the same as going to the theater. If you let up for a second, you’re dead. It serves as an allegory for life. You have to exercise it like a muscle in order to become adept at living in the here and now.
Lowe enjoyed every time he was able to spend with his children while they were younger, especially when they were still little. He added, “Time is running away from me, and I will never, ever have these moments again.” He was right; time was speeding away from him. And there is going to come a day when they are not going to want to wrestle with me, and all of those things, so I really, really grab it while I can take it while I still can.
The celebrity places a high value on developing a strong relationship with his children. When they were younger, however, one thing that his boys did not want to do was view the old movies that their father had collected. They did not seem interested in “St. Elmo’s Fire,” which Lowe attempted to show to them. The performer said, “I can’t seem to pique their interest in it. I tell them, “Guys, you have got to check this out!”
Although Lowe and his own father did not have a very strong connection when he was a child, the fact that he did not have a particularly close relationship with his own father did not prevent him from wanting to be a parent himself. He makes every effort to be there for his family, especially his children. In response to the question of whether or not he believes he is a good dad, Lowe said, “I like to think I am.” I am conscious of the fact that I am extremely hands-on and very present.
Lowe has had challenges throughout his whole life, but he has always been able to surmount them. It’s possible that all of the new information about how the world works has been taxing on him in some way. “You are aware of the proverb, which states that below every cynic is a sentimentalist. “Because I’m the most cynical person in the room,” he said. “All I can say is that I’m sceptical about, um… You should realize that I’ve seen a lot in a very short amount of time in my life. I am virtually always one step ahead of the road when it comes to predicting where it will end up.
Lowe doesn’t spend time wishing that his life had turned out differently in spite of the fact that he has conquered a lot of obstacles in his life. He said the following in an interview with Parade in 2022: “I’m happy I lived the life that I lived because I have no regrets, but I was super ready to coach Little League, carve pumpkins on Halloween, read books, and serve hot lunch on Wednesdays.” I cherished each and every second of it to the fullest.
Lowe is devoted to his family and throughout the years has shown this by making a number of personal sacrifices. When Lowe’s boys were younger and he was working on “The West Wing,” he traveled every day between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara so that he could be home in time to tuck his children in at night. This allowed him to be there for his sons’ formative years. “They knew I was there and I felt like that was of value,” Lowe stated, as reported by PEOPLE.
His current wife, Berkoff, was formerly romantically involved with Lowe’s pal Emilio Estevez. The chemistry between Lowe and Berkoff was undeniable following the breakup of their previous relationship. After then, the pair tied the knot in 1991, which means that they have been married for more than a quarter of a century. They have not lost their joy or their affection for one another. The two decided to do something that they both like as a way to commemorate the special event.
Lowe said, “My lovely wife Sheryl and I are celebrating our thirtieth wedding anniversary today.” Everyone has been asking me what I am going to do, and I have some thoughts to share with you. I had the idea that maybe my wife and I might play a round of golf that consists of 18 holes. On the one hand, my wife despises golf, but on the other, I’m a huge fan of the game, and marriage is all about making concessions. After that, I had the idea that the day should include activities that my wife enjoys, so I’m considering taking her to the spa for some treatments, having a lovely lunch, and going for a stroll on the beach. And while she’s occupied with that, you can find me out on the golf course.”
Berkoff and Lowe have a sweet and endearing friendship, and Berkoff affectionately refers to Lowe as his “Love Bug.” Regarding his spouse, Lowe was quoted as saying, “I am so blessed to have found the right person, that I found a soulmate and someone who I think is so hot, smart, and funny.” I am simply beyond thankful since you are such a wonderful mother and entrepreneur.
Lowe has no regrets about the way Sheryl improved his life; he is grateful to her for everything. “I had met my now wife, Sheryl, and was attempting my first try at monogamy — which was not really in my nature at the time — and I wasn’t able to do it,” he remembered. “It just wasn’t in my nature.” “It prompted me to take a closer look at the way I was conducting my life. That ultimately led to my being clean, which in turn led to a change in my life that ultimately resulted in all that I currently have. You have to have the desire to change. I want it, and I was prepared for it.”
In May of 2021, Lowe celebrated the completion of 31 years of sobriety and wrote on his Instagram feed about the significant achievement. He posted a picture of himself riding a bike at the beach with the following statement below it: “Today I have 31 years without using drugs or alcohol. I would want to express my gratitude to everyone who is traveling down this road with me, and I would also like to extend a warm welcome to anybody who is considering coming to be a part of our group of free and happy people. Also, a very warm embrace to my family for putting up with me all these years!
The man who is a father of two children discussed how becoming sober has helped him develop not just as a parent but also as an actor. “Being truthful with yourself on a minute-by-minute basis is absolutely necessary if you want to maintain your sobriety,” No secrets, no double life. And you have to stop being so ridiculous,” Lowe reportedly told Variety. Being genuine and truthful to oneself is the cornerstone of a successful acting career.
Lowe and his wife are able to spend more quality time together now that their boys are adults and no longer living at home. Even after all of these years, the pair maintains a close connection to one another. He considers his lengthy marriage to Berkoff to be one of the “miracles” of his life, and he has said that “she saw things in me that nobody had ever seen in me before.”
Lowe also said that his wife is one of the few individuals who can claim to have “seen” him in his “true” form. Because of this, he was prepared to give up the partying lifestyle he had adopted. “I had the feeling that if I was ever going to be able to make it work with anybody, it was going to be with Sheryl,” Lowe revealed. “Alcohol and drugs were only going to make that considerably more difficult to accomplish.”
In an interview with PEOPLE, Lowe discussed his struggles with addiction in the past and how much his wife has assisted him in leading a more successful life. He said, “I have both gratitude and a profound humility for the gifts that I’ve been given in this world, as well as the gifts that I’ve worked for.”
Even though Lowe has been in the public eye for a considerable amount of time, he has gone through his fair share of difficulties. According to PEOPLE, the deep-seated problems that Lowe experienced throughout his youth led to him developing a significant dependence on alcohol. As a result of seeing his mother go through many divorces and being uprooted on a regular basis, Lowe struggled to establish a stable living situation for himself.
At first, he decided to pursue a career in acting. “I had a huge fantasy world in my head and then I found something I could focus all of my energies on instead of living in the moment, which a lot of times as a kid was sad or uncomfortable,” he stated. “I found something I could focus all of my energies on instead of living in the moment.”
However, after his breakout role in “The Outsiders,” Lowe started to enjoy the benefits of Hollywood, despite the fact that many of these privileges were unsuitable for someone of his age. He said that when he was just 17 years old, the production studio would give him with alcohol. “It was just like being in a different world,” Lowe added.
Later on, he said that he wanted to be his role from the movie “St. Elmo’s Fire,” saying, “I became so identified with it — the wild, fun, rock and roll, quasi-debauched with the heart of gold (guy): that’s my early twenties in a nutshell.”
In addition, Lowe found out that his grandpa had had a heart attack in the year 1990, when he was 26 years old. Lowe chose to self-medicate with booze rather than respond to the concerned phone call from his mother about the event.
“I remember going into the bathroom, looking at myself in the mirror, and my thought process was, ‘You need to drink directly from this bottle of Cuervo Gold so you can go to sleep, so you can wake up, so you can deal with this,'” he added. “I remember going into the bathroom, looking at myself in the mirror, and thinking that you need to drink directly from this bottle of Cuervo Gold.” “Of everything that had happened to me up to that point in my life, it was the event that ultimately made me realize, ‘This is not a healthy way to live.’ I checked myself into a rehabilitation center the next day after that.”
Lowe celebrated his 59th birthday in 2023 and has done clean and been in a committed relationship for a considerable amount of time. The actor has been married to his wife for more than three decades, and he only has great things to say about her. In addition to being a wonderful parent, Lowe said, “I still think she’s the craziest, sexiest, most beautiful, insane, complicated, and entertaining person that I know.”
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight in 2021, Lowe said, “Listen, she may have saved my life, really.” I mean, we met when I was nearing the end of my 1980s phase of wild boy madness, and she was crazy enough to make me want to alter the course of my life for her. As a result, the fact that it occurred to me is a tremendous blessing. Perhaps I had made the modification on my own, perhaps, but that’s a really slim possibility. And the moment I set eyes on her, I knew that if I couldn’t make it work with her, I would never be able to make it work with anybody else.
Being a father and bringing up a family with the lady he loves provided him with the impetus to make changes in his life. Despite the fact that he did not give up his work, he made it a priority to be there for his family. Lowe said:
“And I always wanted that life, I really wanted kids, and I wanted to be a mother.” I yearned for a mundane existence outside the realm of Hollywood. I wanted to immerse myself in Hollywood for what I needed to accomplish and then walk out like a light and live as normal of a life as I can, and I believe the reason we were able to do that is because I think we were a really good fit.
Both of Lowe’s boys have a tremendous amount of respect for their father and look to their own parents’ marriage as a model. Matthew, the man’s son, praised his father for his expertise in the field of relationship counseling. He is going to say something along the lines of, “When I found your mother, I knew she was the one.” I tied the knot with my closest friend, and it has turned out to be the finest decision I could have made. Listen to what he has to say… He imparts tidbits of knowledge such as that, which I store away for future reference. I have high hopes that I will one day have a marriage as long as his has been.
Lowe makes an effort to provide a positive example for others and urges those who are battling an addiction to get treatment if they want to get their lives back on track.
He explained: “And you know, anybody who has struggled or overcome any kind of addiction knows what it’s like to face a struggle every day… it’s a daily reprieve as they say… and it’s definitely the thing that changed my life the most. “And you know, anybody who has struggled or overcome any kind of addiction knows what it’s like to confront a struggle every day. To everyone out there who has been debating whether or not to do it, my advice is to just go for it. If you’re considering it, you should go ahead and do it. It is possible, and the benefits that come from doing so are incredible – unthinkable.
Relationships in Hollywood may often be short-lived, but there are a select few that are able to last for an extended period of time and are able to triumph over any and all obstacles that are placed in their path. This is most clearly shown by Lowe and Berkoff’s work.
On July 22, 2022, Lowe celebrated a momentous milestone in his personal life and in his long-lasting relationship with his wife. Both events took place on the same day. In honor of the couple’s 31st wedding anniversary, he visited Instagram in order to post an absolutely stunning picture of Berkoff there. Lowe put the following in the caption:
“I hope you have a wonderful 31st anniversary, sweetheart. Your love has opened up a whole new universe for me. You haven’t changed a bit in terms of how stunning, educated, interesting, kind, and humorous you were all those years ago. Partners in love for the rest of their lives!!
To this day, Lowe and Berkoff continue to give off the impression of being more in love than they ever were before. On April 15, 2023, Lowe, who seemed to be in his early twenties at the time, shared a photograph of himself and Berkoff on Instagram with the message, “Date night with my beautiful sweetie!” The couple looked extremely gorgeous together, and the warmth of their love could be felt even through the screen.
There is no question that Lowe has encountered a great deal of difficulty during the course of his life, in terms of both his professional and personal endeavors. He has, to his great fortune, been able to count on Berkoff’s love and support all the way through it all, and it is clear that the strength of their connection has not diminished in the least.
