On Sunday, the actress uploaded a picture montage along with a message of gratitude on several social media platforms.
After her father, Ryan O’Neal, passed away on Friday, Tatum O’Neal has shown her gratitude to her friends and followers by sending out a message of messages of appreciation.
Tatum posted a video on Instagram that contained a picture montage of the father-daughter combination captured throughout the course of their relationship. The film also included Tatum’s own personal expressions of gratitude.
“Thank you everyone for all of your love and support,” she stated in the video message. “He’s in heaven now.”
The montage included photographs of Ryan and Tatum, beginning with her when she was a little child and continuing through their co-starring part in the film Paper Moon in 1973 and ending with their reunion as adults.
In the beginning of the shooting of Paper Moon, Tatum was just nine years old when she started working with her father. She would go on to become the youngest person in history to win the prestigious prizes, having won both the Academy Award and the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress even though she was only ten years old at the time. However, the young actress’s triumph in Hollywood came at a cost.
Over the course of her life, Tatum battled an addiction to narcotics, and in her autobiography, titled “A Paper Life,” published in 2005, she said that her father was violent and was the one who first introduced her to drugs. In the end, they would become estranged from one another for over twenty years. In the year 2011, Ryan revealed that he had been oblivious to the whereabouts of his daughter for a number of years.
“It’s embarrassing,” Ryan said at the time. “I cannot believe it.” “I have no idea how on earth it came about. Right now, I’m just starting to figure out how to find a road back for us. We are currently working on it.”
2011 marked the beginning of Ryan and Tatum’s reunion, despite all that had transpired between them. Parts of their reunion were documented for the OWN series Ryan and Tatum: The O’Neals, which only lasted for a brief period of time.
In September of 2020, Sean McEnroe, Tatum’s son, posted a picture on social media showing Ryan, Tatum, and her three children together in the middle of the COVID pandemic and the continuing wildfires with the state of California.
Using the description “This is one of the most memorable photos of my life,” Sean referred to the adorable family photograph. “The last time we were all together was in 2003, when we celebrated the Paper Moon Anniversary, which was thirty years old. I could shed tears of thankfulness for the fact that everyone in this picture is still alive and that we were all able to be back together after such a long period of time spent going through things that were difficult. There is a fire raging throughout the whole West Coast, but if the O’Neals can find a way to reconcile, then everything is really possible.
On the occasion of her father’s 82nd birthday, which occurred on April 21, 2023, Tatum posted her last Instagram post with him. It was captioned with the words “Happy birthday dad, I love you,” and she was smiling.
