On Tuesday afternoon, Jimmy Carter made a public appearance that was both uncommon and moving. He was in Atlanta to attend the funeral ceremony for his late wife, Rosalynn Carter.
The former president, who was 99 years old at the time, had been receiving hospice care at home before to the ceremony that took place on Tuesday. He had ceased medical assistance in February due to his personal health issues.
Rosalynn, on the other hand, was diagnosed with dementia in May and entered hospice care only a few days before she passed away on November 19 at the age of 96 with dementia. A press statement issued by The Carter Center said that she passed away “peacefully” in her home in Plains, Georgia, where she had lived for a very long period, “with her family by her side.”
“Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished,” President Carter stated in a statement that accompanied the announcement. I was in need of some good direction and encouragement, and she provided me with both. Throughout the whole of Rosalynn’s existence, I was constantly aware that someone loved and supported someone else.

The 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, was married to Rosalynn for 77 years, and throughout his presidency, which lasted from 1977 to 1981, she was the nation’s first lady, breaking barriers in the process. Her children, Jack, Chip, Jeff, and Amy, as well as a large number of grandkids and great-grandchildren, are among those who will carry on her legacy.
The former first lady and the former president began a charming term that they shared with each other: “ILYTG.” They have been inseparable since they were infants and have been inseparable ever since.
“‘I love you the most,'” she was saying. According to statements made by the nation’s 39th president to PEOPLE in 2014, “That is what my mother and daddy used to say back and forth, and I picked it up with Rosa.” Now, each and every one of our children engages in the same behavior, which is to say ILYTG when on the phone or in emails. The majority of the time, they just put the initials.”
During the first day of the memorial services for Rosalynn, a wreath was laid at the Rosalynn Carter Health and Human Sciences Complex, which is located on the campus of Georgia Southwestern State University. Former and present members of Rosalynn’s Secret Service detail guarded the hearse as it made stops at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia. The motorcade that was escorting Rosalynn made these visits.
She was subsequently transported to the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum in Atlanta, where members of the general public were welcome to pay their respects to the former first lady.
Jimmy was one of the guests who attended the invitation-only event that took place on Tuesday. Other attendees were the current Vice President Joe Biden, the past Vice President Bill Clinton, Vice President Kamala Harris, and the second gentleman Doug Emhoff.
The memorial ceremony for Rosalynn was held on Tuesday, and attendance included all of the surviving first ladies of the United States, including Dr. Jill Biden, Melania Trump, Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Laura Bush.
At the Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, on the 28th of November, there will be a private burial ceremony for the family and friends of the deceased.
