Barbara Walters was able to discern that the moment had come.

A well-known journalist made a mysterious request to an executive at ABC who was having lunch with her during the 16th season of “The View.” The request was for Anne Sweeney to write down the year 2014 on a piece of paper.

After suffering a number of health-related setbacks, including a fall and an episode of chickenpox, Walters had just recently returned to the talk show in March of 2013.

In just a few short months after their lunch together, Walters asked Sweeney whether she still had the paper, and she told the executive that she planned to retire from the television position that had made her famous in 2014.

Sweeney is quoted in the 2019 book “Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of ‘The View'” as saying, “She picked her date.” Ramin Setoodeh is the author of the aforementioned book.

The announcement that the pioneering newswoman who helped establish and co-host “The View,” one of the network’s most successful (and controversial) programs since 1997, would be leaving was originally cause for anxiety within the network.

But as the year went on, Walters’ health continued to worsen, and it was clear that the 84-year-old could no longer be employed in any capacity.

She reported that one day, just as the play was ending, the actress “collapsed into the arms of a stage manager.”

“She had to be taken to the backstage greenroom, where she was seated on a sofa,” the announcer said. The personnel called for emergency medical services.

According to the book, Walters was “concerned that the sight of her on a stretcher would make it into the papers,” but in the end, she agreed to consult a doctor, and she was back on the set the next morning.

The co-hosts of ‘The View’ share their thoughts on the loss of Barbara Walters.

Setoodeh made the observation that Barbara behaved as if nothing had changed in her routine.

As the time for Walter’s retirement drew closer, there was a lot of commotion and celebration.

In order to pay tribute to Barbara Walters on the occasion of her 17th and last season of hosting The View, ABC aired a primetime special that was two hours long and focused on her career. Additionally, the news division of the network renamed its Upper West Side headquarters the Barbara Walters Building, and some of the show’s original co-hosts, such as Meredith Vieira and Star Jones, returned to the program.

The most current episode of the Emmy Winner was shown in May of 2014 and included Oprah Winfrey, Michael Douglas, and Hillary Clinton as special guests. The lady of the hour, as she was saying farewell to the audience, mentioned that she was looking forward to “taking a deep breath” and “enjoying [her] view.” 61

On the other hand, Walters did not stay in the background for a particularly long time. She made a comeback to the program in 2014 and 2015 in the capacity of a guest co-host before ultimately leaving it.

The former host of “20/20” passed away on Friday at her home in New York City. She has 93 years under her belt.
