Kelly Clarkson, who has maintained a modest demeanor throughout her whole career, wants to instill the same quality in her children.
The pop singer, 41, spoke candidly with PEOPLE at SiriusXM’s Next Generation Industry & Press Preview event in New York City on Wednesday about bringing her children, daughter River Rose, 9, and son Remington Alexander, 7, on stage with her during her performances and how they perceive it as a typical activity. River Rose is the older child of the two, while Remington Alexander is the younger.
“I always take mine with me when I go outside. They did it in Vegas throughout the summer when I performed similar concerts there, and they wish to do it again. “I don’t ask them,” Clarkson tells PEOPLE, adding that “it’s hard” to educate her children, whom she shares with her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, about the extraordinary nature of her renowned lifestyle. “It’s hard,” Clarkson says. “It’s hard” to teach her children about the exceptional nature of her famous existence.
The children of the “Miss Independent” singer often participate in what their mother refers to as “dance parties” at home. Since they were small, the children have also seen their mother appear on television and perform live, and they may not necessarily comprehend the difference between the two.
“It’s nothing out of the ordinary for them. Clarkson explains that the individuals in question do not consider this to be odd in any way. They are asking things like, ‘Can I bring my friend?’ “And I’m thinking, ‘OK, well, maybe we’ll just bring you right now.'”
One of her primary responsibilities as a mother is to make sure that her children are aware of the wonderful opportunities afforded to them by the fact that she has a successful profession in the entertainment industry.

They are not yet familiar with the phenomenon of celebrity. They must believe that everyone is capable of doing it, right? Which is quite neat, but at the same time, you want to teach kids the thanks and appreciation element,” observes Clarkson, before quipping: “Privilege is absolutely taught in my family.” It’s likely that it’s causing them annoyance.
River, the daughter of the singer of “Since You’ve Been Gone,” just got a taste of what it’s like to be a musician. The new deluxe edition of Clarkson’s album Chemistry has River’s vocals on the tune “You Don’t Make Me Cry,” and the album was released recently. NBC talk show presenter claims her daughter “was so excited” for the song to come out and that the tape used in the song was filmed when River was 5 but kept until now. The clip is utilized in the song.
“Before it was out, they wanted to listen to it all the time, and now that it’s out, they want to listen to it all the time. “So, now she gets excited about it, but she gets a little nervous,” says Clarkson, adding that she is coming to the realization that River may be getting to an age when she begins to feel a little self-conscious at times. “So, now she gets excited about it, but she gets a little nervous,” adds Clarkson.

“I didn’t even think about it, but, you know, it’s now kind of brought to my attention of like — hey, she’s gonna get to that stage where she’s like, ‘Mom, don’t do this,’ or ‘Don’t do that,’ but she loves it right now,” according to the Grammy-winning artist. “She actually calls it her song.”
River may not be aware of one of the advantages of publishing music, and that is the fact that she will be entitled to royalties for each stream and purchase of the song when it is made available to the public. But for the time being, Clarkson will manage her daughter’s professional responsibilities.
“Both my daughter and my son are in good hands in terms of the River Rose and the Magical Lullaby books,” the mother said. “She is being very well cared for.” Clarkson says, “I have like a whole fund for them,” after which he exclaims with a chuckle, “I don’t take the money!”
