According to the advertisement for the property, a prospective buyer has formally signed a contract to purchase Barbara Walters’ longtime residence in New York City.
The late television pioneer and creator of the talk show The View, who passed away in December 2022 at the age of 93, resided in the apartment in Manhattan for the thirty years leading up to her passing. After waiting for close to four months, the home with five bedrooms and five bathrooms was listed for sale in April at a price of $19.75 million.
Even though the ultimate selling price of the historic home has not been determined as of yet, the asking price was reduced to $17.75 million a few weeks ago in the month of November. Bonhams made the announcement in October that some of Ms. Walters’ personal possessions from her house, such as furniture, paintings, jewelry, and apparel, will be put up for auction in a number of locations across the world, including Walters’ homeland of Boston, Los Angeles, Paris, London, Hong Kong, and New York City.
The expansive house, which overlooks Central Park and is located on the sixth level of a building that was constructed in 1925 on the Upper East Side, seems to remain almost completely unchanged from the time when Walters called it home.
The listing was maintained by Alexa Lambert of Compass.
Following their passage through a mirrored hall, guests are ushered into a large living area that provides a view of Fifth Avenue and, farther in the distance, Central Park. The room has herringbone wood flooring and built-in bookshelves in addition to a marble fireplace that burns wood and boasts a marble surround.

There is a clear flow from one side of the living room into the formal dining space, which is elegantly decorated with crystal chandeliers and wallpaper with a pink patterned design.
On the other side of the room is a warm and inviting library that has a couple of window seats and wood-lined walls.
A floral motif that was used in the dining room can be seen repeated on the bespoke cabinets and throughout the rest of the décor in the principal bedroom, which is flooded with natural light.

A large dressing room area that opens out into the adjacent space with shiny red walls and a vast expanse of mirror. In addition, the room has a vanity as well as a large amount of storage space.

Cindi Berger, Walters’ publicist, told PEOPLE not long after the legendary journalist’s passing on December 30, 2022, that the legendary journalist had passed away in her apartment in New York City.
Barbara Walters passed away in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by her family and friends. “She had an eventful life,” Berger said. “She had no regrets about the way she spent her life. Not just for female journalists, but for all women in general, she was a pioneer in her field.
People will always remember Walters for her remarkable ability to coax admissions, tears, and profound insights from the people she interviewed. Robert Iger, a former CEO of Walt Disney Company and someone who worked with Barbara Walters throughout her many years at ABC, said this about Walters: “She was a one-of-a-kind reporter who landed many of the most important interviews of our time, from heads of state and leaders of regimes to the biggest celebrities and sports icons.” Walters was a pioneer in the field of broadcast journalism.
Her interview guests covered the spectrum of why they attracted the interest of the world, from Fidel Castro to Elizabeth Taylor, but Walters’ hallmark interview method remained as insightful and stunning for decades as it was when it was first introduced.
