On September 7, Shields had a seizure, and when she came to in the ambulance, Cooper was there with her, holding her hand. She had been out for quite some time.
Brooke Shields is talking about the bombshell that she dropped about how Bradley Cooper rushed to the rescue after her recent seizure one week after she was recognized as one of Glamour Magazine’s 2023 Women of the Year. This news came one week after she was honored as one of the 2023 Women of the Year.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet of the event in New York City, Shields, 58, joked about how she believed she would have perished after the “full-blown grand mal seizure,” since the Silver Linings Playbook actor, 48, was with her on the way to the hospital.
“I’m okay but when I woke up in the ambulance and it was Bradley Cooper, I thought maybe I had passed away,” Shields said in an ET interview.
The model disclosed this information during her Women of the Year interview with Glamour. She said that the “surreal” experience took place on September 7 as she was rehearsing for her one-woman show, Previously Owned, which was scheduled to make its premiere on September 12 at the renowned Café Carlyle. During that time of preparation, Shields said that her salt levels were low, and as a result, she ended up passing out when everything “went black.”
After calling for an ambulance, the people surrounding her made many attempts to get in touch with her family members but were ultimately unable. As a consequence, they made their way to Cooper for assistance.
“I was very lucky — my husband [Chris Henchy] wasn’t there, my daughters were at school, and he [Cooper] was called and he was near,” according to Shields.
She claims that when she eventually woke up in the ambulance, the sight of the actor from A Star Is Born caused her to wonder whether or not she had really survived through the ordeal.
“I even thought about it and I was like, ‘I didn’t make it, did I?'” according to her. “But don’t worry about it. It’s not a big deal.”
During the grand mal seizure, Shields claims that she became “totally blue,” began foaming at the mouth, and was “trying to swallow” her tongue. Shields also claims that she was “trying to swallow” her tongue.
The Mayo Clinic states that a grand mal seizure, which is now more often referred to as a tonic-clonic seizure, results in a loss of consciousness as well as severe muscular spasms. A tonic-clonic seizure causes the muscles to become rigid, which results in the victim falling to the ground. After that, the muscles will contract and release in alternating fashion.
“The next thing I remember, I’m being loaded into an ambulance,” she said. “I don’t remember much after that.” “I am breathing in oxygen,” she adds. “And Bradley f**king Cooper is sitting next to me holding my hand.”
According to Glamour, the sommelier at L’Artusi first attempted to contact Shields’ husband, Henchy, “which ended up with an assistant reaching an assistant, who eventually called Bradley Cooper, who was nearby.”
“But then I realized that this must be what it’s like to be passed,” I thought to myself. You wake up, and Bradley Cooper is saying, “I’m going to go to the hospital with you, Brooke,” as he is holding my hand and walking towards the entrance. “And I’m looking at my hand, and I’m looking at Bradley Cooper’s hand in my hand, and I’m like, ‘This is odd and surreal,'” she said in an interview with Glamour.
