Carolyn and Sean Savage, a married couple from Ohio, had experienced a string of losses, and it seemed as if they would never be able to have children. Despite their desperation, they continued to try to conceive. This was the case up to the point that they started using in vitro fertilization (IVF). When they found out that Carolyn was pregnant, the couple’s joy knew no bounds. But their elation was quickly replaced by dread when, just a few days later, they got a hurried phone call from their physician in which he informed them that they needed to abort the pregnancy.
During a lengthy conversation with 60 Minutes Australia, Sean Savage recalled the day when he got a phone call from the IVF clinic telling them of a mistake that had been made. The clinic had accidentally given him the wrong embryo. It was then discovered that Carolyn had a separate batch of frozen embryos put into her. To put it another way, she was carrying the kid of a different couple—Shannon and Paul Morell—who were already married.
Carolyn and Sean already had three children when they decided to undergo the process of in vitro fertilization (IVF) to have their fourth child, Mary Kate. Sadly, when the couple decided they wanted to have additional children, Carolyn was forced to face the reality that the likelihood of her becoming pregnant had increased significantly. However, in 2009, she decided to try IVF once again. After that, ten days later, they received a phone call from the doctor in which he informed them of the mistake that had been made. The fact that Shannon Morell’s embryos were recorded and identified under her maiden name, which just so happened to be Savage (the family name of Sean and Carolyn), was in reality the result of a clerical mistake on the part of a previous employee.
The doctor who was treating Carolyn advised her that she had two options: either she could carry the baby despite the fact that there was a significant danger to her health and with the understanding that she would have to give it up, or she could have an abortion.

“The irony of the fact that I could terminate the pregnancy but if I brought him into this world, I have to give him away – that was an absurd irony but it was our reality,” she said to the interviewer. “The irony of the fact that I could terminate the pregnancy but if I brought him into this world, I have to give him away.”
They came to the conclusion that they would continue with the pregnancy. Carolyn finally gave birth to a happy and healthy baby boy after bearing the kid for a total of nine months. Carolyn and Sean had a day filled with ups and downs, much like riding a rollercoaster. They were forced to give the newborn kid back to his original parents only a few short moments after giving birth to the youngster.
When asked by 60 Minutes Australia about the difficulty of delivering the kid back to its biological parents, Sean described the feeling as one of “reluctance,” explaining that at the moment, he just could not believe he was acting in such a way.
The little youngster, who was eventually given the name Logan, developed into a hyperactive tot during the course of his life. The Morells first had the intention of not informing Logan about the mix-up; nevertheless, they soon came to the conclusion that it was “impossible” to conceal the information from him.
“I want him to have the sense that everything that has happened to him was meant to be, that this was his destiny, and that he is the luckiest child in the world. Now, it is not simple; I mean that is difficult to acknowledge as being true. “That’s something that’s hard to accept that we’re still working on, but to him, I want to make it to be a beautiful ending, and although it was an unusual beginning – what a lucky kid he is,” Shannon said. “That’s something that’s hard to accept because it’s something that we’re still working on.”
Both couples decided to write books on their out-of-the-ordinary experiences and publish them. Through Carolyn, the Savages released a book with the title “Inconceivable: A Medical Mistake, the Baby We Couldn’t Keep, and Our Choice to Deliver the Ultimate Gift.” The Morells, on the other hand, recounted their experience in a book titled “Misconception: One Couple’s Journey from Embryo Mix-Up to Miracle Baby.”
The Savages were given a reason to rejoice in 2011 when they discovered that they were going to be parents to “miracle twins” Isabella and Reagen, who were born as a result of the surrogacy arrangement. She also had a son, whom they surprisingly conceived naturally and delivered without any issues in the year 2014, and she gave birth to him.
