The Adorable Love Story of Michael and Shakira: He Was Almost Going to Fly to Brazil to Meet Her
It was love at first sight for Michael Caine when he saw his future wife Shakira for the first time in a television advertisement. What initially began as a mutual admiration has now developed into a loving marriage that has lasted for half a century.
During his appearance on “The Jonathan Ross Show,” Michael told the audience the inspiring tale of how they fell in love. “I saw this lady on the television in a commercial and fell in love instantly,” according to him.
Michael had a strong impression that Shakira was the lady for him, despite the fact that they had met in a commercial for coffee in Brazil. He was going to travel to Brazil to see her when a friend informed him that she resided in London, only one mile away from him. Michael was shocked to learn this information. Michael thought back to the day they went on their first date together and remembered how Shakira was the most stunningly gorgeous lady he had ever seen.
On the other hand, Shakira saw Michael through a completely different lens. She said that the actor exceeded all of her expectations in every way. After seeing Michael’s performance in the 1971 criminal thriller film “Get Carter,” in which he played the harsh and violent character Jack Carter, Shakira was originally taken away by his acting abilities.
On the other hand, when they finally met face to face, she discovered that he was endearing and kind. Because of Michael’s characteristics and traits, she decided that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him. When Shakira got pregnant, Michael’s anti-marriage ideas began to change, and he began to entertain the idea of getting married. At the time, Michael was opposed to the institution of marriage.
On January 8, 1973, Michael and Shakira exchanged their vows and became husband and wife. The ceremony took place at the Candlelight Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, and the pair went down the aisle together. The lovebirds have been together for 50 years and have been blessed with a daughter named Natasha Caine, who was born in the same year that her parents tied the knot.

Because Michael had such a strong connection to his family, he was unable to go to shooting sites without taking at least one member of his family with him. During this same period, Shakira was offered a role in the film “The Man Who Would Be King,” which was released in 1975, and she accepted the role. Michael was one of her co-stars in the film.
Shakira was cast in the role that was originally intended for another actress, Tessa Dahl, but the director of the film decided to cast her in a different character instead. Shakira was cast in the role originally intended for Tessa since the director believed Tessa did not have the appropriate native look for the role.
However, following the opening of the movie, Shakira experienced anxiety and decided she did not want to continue a career in acting. In a same vein, Michael had made up her mind that “The Man Who Would Be King” would be her very first and very final film, and that Shakira would remain at home and concentrate on raising their family. Shakira would stay at home and focus on growing their family.
The way in which Shakira and her husband connect to one another has contributed to the longevity of their marriage. Some feminists may be troubled by the fact that Shakira is prepared to comply with the directives of her spouse. In an interview, Shakira made it clear that she is not completely submissive and that she is able to express herself when the situation calls for it.
Michael further revealed that he and his wife enjoy a genuine relationship that is unaffected by male chauvinism or the expectations of women’s liberation norms. In light of the fact that the pair was continuing to serve as a source of motivation for a large number of individuals, Shakira gave some sound advise about the institution of matrimony. She said that the majority of the responsibility for difficulties in a relationship, around sixty percent, lay with the woman.
Michael’s respect for Shakira is one thing that he never lets go of, even if she is getting on in years and continues to be stunning. He smiled nostalgically as he thought back to their earlier, more carefree years together when they went on staycations and little weekend trips.
One of the most treasured memories that Michael has is of their many trips to the George V Hotel in Paris, which he referred to as their “little honeymoons” since it was a place where they could get away from everyone and have some alone time.

Michael’s life has been improved by the presence of Shakira. In the book “Blowing the Bloody Doors Off: And Other Lessons in Life,” the seasoned actor recounts the time when his wife discovered him in a precarious situation and worked to save his life.
He discusses openly his battle with alcoholism, particularly during the 1970s, when he had reached the point where he was drinking the equivalent of two bottles of vodka every single day. Michael reflects on how lucky he was to have Shakira enter his life at the precise moment he needed her to do so.
It was around this time in Michael’s life that he experienced a change for the better. The presence of an outstanding lady at his side helped the void that he had been experiencing go away. “It took me about eight minutes to realize that she was the one.” He stated that it took her two hours to realize that she was in love with him.
In addition, the actor discovered a new purpose in life as a result of Shakira’s pregnancy, and he was excited to take on the role of dad. Because of this defining experience, the actor, who was 90 at the time, decided to abstain from drinking alcohol during the day and give up drinking for a whole year.
The actor and his wife also have two grandkids of their own, who adore their grandparents. Once upon a time, the actor related a tale of how he became a hero in the eyes of his grandkids.
The actor recalled a moment when he was watching a cartoon with one of his grandkids when a teaser for one of the “Batman” films flashed on the screen. In the clip, the actor could be seen standing next to Christian Bale’s portrayal of Batman. Michael’s grandson inquired as to whether or not he was familiar with Batman, to which Michael proudly said that the vigilante was a close friend of his.
Michael and his wife are still a powerful and loving marriage even though they are getting on in years. They have been there for each other through thick and thin and take enormous pleasure in spending time in one another’s presence. Michael has said that despite the fact that humans are allowed to have their shortcomings, Shakira is an extraordinary exception.
She is the only person he has ever encountered who, in his opinion, does not have a dark side, and he values every facet of her personality with all of his heart. He admires her without reservation. The longevity of the couple’s marriage is a testimonial to the strength of their love for one another.
