The “Who Says” singer, who is 31 years old, held her Rare Impact Fund Benefit on Wednesday at Nya Studios in Hollywood. During an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, she said that she no longer feels the need to meet particular goals or benchmarks in her third decade.

She tells PEOPLE, “Now that I’m 30, I care less, so it’s actually nice.” “It’s actually nice,” she says. “Now I’m free to concentrate on what really matters, and I don’t have to worry about the things that were previously preventing me from progressing.

Gomez said, “I really hope so” when she was asked whether she wanted the Rare Impact Fund to be her legacy when she passed away. I’m feeling some anxiety about this.”

“It is my first time throwing something, and I hate asking people for money, so I don’t know,” she continues to say. “It’s like a strange idea, but I know that we’re doing a good thing, and I couldn’t be more lucky to have the platform to do that,” she said. “It’s like a weird concept.”

A day before the Rare Impact Fund Benefit, Selena Gomez announced on her Instagram account that on October 10, in recognition of World Mental Health Day, Sephora would donate one hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of Rare Beauty products to the Rare Impact Fund.

Gomez grew upset as she spoke up about her struggle with mental health and how her sister Gracie, who is 10 years old, was the inspiration for the formation of the fund as she was giving a speech at the event on Wednesday.

During her address, she said, “I struggled with the world inside my head for a long time, and there were times when I felt lost and I felt like there was no hope.”And in the year 2020, I was finally given a diagnosis of bipolar illness. And to tell you the truth, a lot of things changed really rapidly.”

Gomez continued by saying that after receiving her diagnosis, she was able to get the answers and information that she needed. The actress continued by saying that she has high expectations that her sister’s generation would have a future that is “kinder” and “clearer” if they get the necessary help for their mental health.

“I know we all have Gracie’s in our lives who make us want to be better and do better, who can motivate us and connect us and make a difference,” Gomez said before extending her appreciation to everyone. “I know we all have Gracie’s in our lives who make us want to be better and do better,” Gomez said.
