Olivia Rodrigo’s music may be inspired by pop-rock from the 2000s and alternative music from the 1990s, but it turns out that she can also play folk music!
In addition to playing her own songs “Driver’s License,” “Get Him Back!” and “Vampire” during her appearance on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge on Monday, the pop singer, who is 20 years old, also covered the song “Stick Season” by the up-and-coming musician Noah Kahan, who is 26 years old.
The hit single “All-American Bitch” from the Vermont singer-songwriter’s 2022 album of the same name was performed at a slower tempo by the vocalist of “All-American Bitch” and her all-women band. Her rendition of the song did not adopt Rodrigo’s distinctive twang, but it stayed true to the Americana vibe of the original by including two acoustic guitars and an electric mandolin in addition to her own instrumentation.
The singer who won a Grammy brought attention to her folky range, particularly on the emotionally strong chorus, by accentuating key words and phrases with a tremendous emphasis.
The author, Kahan, was delighted with the finished product. As a reaction, the singer known as “Dial Drunk” uploaded a TikTok that had a split screen of Rodrigo’s performance and a video of himself listening to it. He commented over the video of himself grooving out and posed the question, “Is Olivia covering stick season?” Her song at this time”
“id give her my entire discography,” the folk singer quipped in the caption of the photo he posted on Instagram. “Olivia, you are so kind; thank you very much.”
Rodrigo has a long history of singing covers that captivate audiences. Just the week before, the superstar sang “If It Makes You Happy” by the folk-pop classic with Sheryl Crow on stage at The Bluebird Café in Nashville. The performance was absolutely adorable.

She also paid tribute to pop-rock icon Carly Simon by playing her timeless song “You’re So Vain” in the year 2022, the same year that Simon was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The rock singer, who is just 20 years old, has also wowed with her renditions of songs by artists ranging from Avril Lavigne to No Doubt when she has appeared at festivals and on tour. While she was performing her popular song “F— You” at the Glastonbury music festival in 2022, Lily Allen came out to sing with her. Alanis Morrisette also came out to sing with her while she was performing on a stop of the Sour tour in May of 2022.

The singer best known for her hit single “Bad Idea Right?” recently discussed some of the ideas that led to the creation of her second album GUTS in an interview with PEOPLE magazine.
She said, “I think there are so many expectations placed on women; you’re always supposed to be grateful, calm, gracious, and poised.” “I think there are so many expectations placed on women.” “As I was growing up, I had a really hard time reconciling the fact that I had all of these feelings that I didn’t feel like I could externalize with the expectation that I wanted to be this good girl.”
She went on to say, “I truly believe that I am unable to write a song that panders.” When I try to write songs in a way that would satisfy other people, I never come up with any good music. All of my finest songs are the result of me trying to just convey something to myself and work through an emotion in a way that is just for me.
