Actress Shannen Doherty is most known for her extensive acting career, which includes some of her most memorable parts in the television programs “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “Charmed,” amongst other films and television shows. In point of fact, Doherty has been performing on stage ever since she was a little girl. During her early playing jobs, she even had the opportunity to collaborate with the renowned actor Michael Landon.
Before Landon hired her in another one of his shows, “Little House: A New Beginning,” which was a spin-off of “Little House on the Prairie,” she had a part on the sitcom “Father Murphy,” which was her first acting job. In June of 2021, Doherty shared a flashback picture of herself on Instagram along with some commentary on the roles she had previously played. In the caption, she wrote the following:
“Father Murphy,” she said. My first assignment was with the great Michael Landon producing, and shortly after that he cast me in Little House New Beginnings, where I had the honor of having him direct me many times. Hashtag “buckteeth”
Regardless of the phase of Doherty’s career that you may be familiar with, the reason she has been in the news so often as of late is because she is still fighting cancer. Doherty’s breast cancer went into remission for two years after her original diagnosis in 2015, but regrettably, it has returned. Doherty was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. In February of 2020, she said on “Good Morning America” that she had not “processed it” and that it was “a bitter pill to swallow.”

The actress gave an exclusive interview to Entertainment Tonight in December 2021, during which she discussed her hopes and expectations for 2022, one of which was for “progress” to be made in the search for a treatment for the condition. In addition, she said that she was “doing well” and that she was looking forward to continuing her acting career in the future year.
Nevertheless, in June of 2023, the actress shared the unfortunate news that the cancer had metastasized to her brain. Her celebrity pals are continuing to gather around her, and among them is a face from her past that she is quite acquainted with.
According to ELLE, the recurrence of Doherty’s cancer was detected in 2020 when she went to the doctor for treatment of her back problems. The examination revealed that the disease had progressed to her spine. But even though she was in stage four, Doherty never stopped holding out hope. In point of fact, she shown how much she is ready to struggle in the years that have passed, and she hasn’t been reluctant to share her tale with the general public.
In an interview that took place in December 2021 with ET, Doherty discussed her continuing struggle in further detail and shared her hopes and dreams for the next year. In her words:
“Even though I am thriving and doing well, I still have cancer, and you don’t want stage four,” she said, “if I were dreaming of what would happen in 2022, I think a lot more research and progression as far as finding a cure for cancer is my ultimate, ultimate dream because even though I am thriving and doing well, I still have cancer.”
She continued, as she recounted how it inspired her to help raise awareness in the hopes of finding a solution for the disease:
“But I have it, and so I think in the back of my mind, this constant sort of OK, ‘What can I do to help bring more awareness, what can I do the help raise money, and what can I do to sort of push research for not just myself but for everybody else who is suffering from cancer?’ ”
The actress also talked about more practical objectives she had for herself, such as continuing to act, which is something she hasn’t slowed down on despite the fact that she was diagnosed with cancer. While making progress in finding a cure for cancer is Doherty’s ultimate aim, she also spoke about more realistic goals she had for herself.
Doherty said the following with ET: “Realistically, I hope that my health just continues to be stable and that I continue the relationships I have with my husband, my mom, and my friends. I also hope that their work continues to grow and that it only gets better.”
The actress had been working as usual, most notably in the film “Fortress,” and she said that she had no intention of slowing down any time in the near future. During the interview, she stated:
“I just really really hope that, in terms of employment, next year continues. I really hope that I will continue to be presented with chances like this, and that I will also continue to have the chance to collaborate with individuals that I have always respected and appreciated.
Doherty shot a number of movies in the same year, including one with Mel Gibson and a Lifetime movie named “List of a Lifetime.” In addition to her work on “Fortress,” in which she co-starred with Bruce Willis, she was also a part of a number of other movies that year. The latter accomplishment even got her a nomination for a Critics’ Choice Award. She said to the media organization:

“Everything is going quite well for me, and I’m feeling terrific. This year has been kind of an interesting year for me because work is so important to me, and especially as somebody who has cancer, you want to constantly put it out there that you know you’re so hirable, you’re so employable, and that oftentimes for people like myself, it’s the work that helps drive us. Although I feel really blessed, this year has been kind of an interesting year for me because work is so important to me.
She continued by saying, “It’s the work that makes me wake up in the morning so excited to go create, and do my job, which is a job that I actually love, and this year has just been phenomenal.” I’ve put in a lot of effort, and a movie that I directed for the television network Lifetime called List of Lifetime was just nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award this morning, so that’s really cool.”
In spite of the fact that the cancer had returned, Doherty looked to be in good health; nonetheless, in June 2023, the actress broke the devastating news to her fans. The actress disclosed her news in a series of postings on Instagram, one of which said that in January 2023, a CT scan indicated that the cancer had spread to her brain. In one of the videos, she can be seen being fitted for a mask that is described as being “which you wear during radiation to your brain.” A second video showed her face in close-up as she went through another treatment, with tears falling from her eyes. She seemed to be in a lot of pain. It said in the caption:
On the 12th of January, the first dose of radiation was administered. My concern is readily apparent. I have a severe fear of enclosed spaces, and at the time, there was a lot going on in my life. I consider myself very blessed to have wonderful medical professionals like Dr. Amin Mirahdi and the incredible technicians at Cedars-Sinai working on my care. But that anxiety… that upheaval… the timing of it all… This is what it may look like to have cancer.
Doherty uploaded a second video a few days later, which showed her lying in a hospital bed while speaking to medical professionals about an upcoming operation for a “tumor in my head they wanted to remove and also biopsy.” In this video, Doherty described the upcoming treatment as “tumor in my head they wanted to remove and also biopsy.” Doherty displayed composure as she answered the staff’s inquiries in a calm and collected way. On the other hand, she admitted in the caption that she was experiencing everything but.
“I am attempting to be bold, but the truth is that I am scared. I felt like I couldn’t breathe because of the terror. I was terrified of every negative consequence that might occur, and I was anxious about leaving my mom and how it would affect her. She wrote in her journal, “Worried that I would come out of surgery not be me anymore,” and added once again, “This is what cancer can look like.”

Doherty hasn’t held back when it comes to being open and honest with her followers about her battle with cancer, and the experience has been both upsetting and painful to see. The actress has a number of famous acquaintances in the entertainment industry, including Sarah Michelle Gellar, Selma Blair, Harry Connick Jr., and Marcia Cross, who have shown their support for her.
Throughout her fight against cancer, Doherty has depended on the support of many friends, one of whom is none other than her former co-star on “Beverly Hills, 90210,” Brian Austin Green. She remembered that he was one of just a handful of individuals who knew about her condition at the beginning, which corresponded with her presence on a remake of the series named “BH90210.” This was discussed in an interview that she gave to “Good Morning America” in February 2020. During the rigorous 15 to 16 hours a day spent shooting on the set, she said that Green, who also appeared in the revival, was a huge comfort to her.
“I had times of great anxiety where I thought, ‘I can’t really do this,’ and Brian was the one person who – of that group of people that knew – that I told, like, pretty quickly and said, ‘Here, the – this is what I’m dealing with.’ “I had moments of great anxiety when I thought, ‘I can’t really do this.’ Therefore, just before we started filming, he would always give me a call and tell me, “Listen, you know, whatever happens, I have your back.” She went on to explain that “Brian helped me through a lot of it.” “He would look at me and be like, ‘We got this, kiddo’… so Brian helped me through a lot of it,” she said.

During the month of September 2023, Green provided an update on Doherty’s ongoing fight and referred to her as “resilient.”
He said in an interview with E News that Doherty was “doing fantastic” and that “She’s resilient. I mean, if anyone that I know is going to have to deal with what she’s dealing with, then she’s the one who can get through it.”
Popculture reports that Green, who was previously married to actress Megan Fox, told the Herald Sun that Doherty was a “incredibly tough person.” Green was previously married to Fox.
“If there’s anyone who could really put up a fight against cancer, she’s one of them,” said the oncologist. Clearly, this is not an easy circumstance to be in, but I love her to the moon and back,” he continued.
