When it came to her sixteenth birthday, the former first daughter of the United States recalls that her parents made a rookie error.
Those Bushes really know how to make a surprise uncomfortable for their daughter, Jenna Bush Hager!
Former First Daughter Jenna Bush discussed with Hoda and Laura Bush on Tuesday’s edition of Today With Hoda & Jenna that her parents, former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush, got a bit “creative” when it came to throwing her and her twin sister Barbara Bush a birthday party when they were 16 years old.
“For my sixteenth birthday, my best friend Barbara and I threw a surprise party for me,” Hager said of the special event. “We had one together, and it was a pancake breakfast, which was super cute.”
Hager related how her mother had informed her and her sister that they would be leaving for school early so that they could take their driver’s tests; however, this was just a portion of her mother’s overall scheme.

“Just as we were about to give my dad a last hug and kiss before we left for school, my mom said, ‘Go in and say goodbye to Dad.'” According to Hager. “And all of our friends were sitting there when we walked in,” they said as we entered. It was always a lot of fun to celebrate birthdays with my folks since they were so inventive.
In spite of the fact that they were having a good time, the President and First Lady managed to make a critical error in their plans.
“But then it gets kind of awkward because it’s like [they have] the old boyfriend sitting next to the new boyfriend,” she added. “But then again, it’s like [they have] the old boyfriend sitting next to the new boyfriend.”
Which provoked a response from Kotb, who said, “Your parents are crazy.”
Hager, who has three children with her husband, Henry Chase Hager — a son named Hal, age 4, and two girls named Mila, age 10, and Poppy, age 7 — is in the midst of her parenting journey and is now experiencing the funny and touching moments of her children.
Recently, the author of Sisters First acknowledged that she is interested in having another child, despite the fact that her husband has previously expressed opposition to the notion.
In the beginning of this month, she admitted on Today that she was interested in having another child. “I’d like to have another,” she said. Henry firmly planted his foot in his stance. He reports that all three of our newborns are doing well. I told Henry that since there was a four-year span between Poppy and Hal, and then there was a two-year spread [between Mila and Poppy], I’m right at the time that I should be having a — I should be having a kid right now!
