According to an extract from Elon Musk, which was published in The Wall Street Journal and is scheduled to be released on September 12 by author Walter Isaacson, Elon Musk has spoken publicly about the divide that exists between him and his daughter, who is 19 years old.

The passage, which was released on Thursday, focuses mostly on Elon Musk’s lightning-fast takeover of X, the platform that was once known as Twitter. However, it also provides some insight into Musk’s relationship with his oldest daughter.

According to the passage, the then-16-year-old girl reportedly texted the woman who was married to Musk’s brother’s wife, saying, “Hey, I’m transgender, and my name is now Jenna.” “Don’t tell it to my dad.”

The young woman, who was just 18 years old at the time, was given permission by a California court in June 2020 to officially alter her name to Vivian Jenna Wilson. She made the decision at that moment to take after her mother Justine Musk’s maiden name. According to court records acquired by PEOPLE, the judge acknowledged that she is a girl and ordered that a new birth certificate be issued to reflect the alterations. This information was gleaned from the judge’s ruling.

In the records filed with the court, she is quoted as saying that the change was “Gender Identity and the fact that I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape, or form.”

“She went beyond socialism to being a full communist and thinking that anyone rich is evil,” Musk, 52, is quoted as saying in the extract from the WSJ.

According to what Isaacson said, “The rift pained him more than anything in his life since the infant passing of his firstborn child Nevada,” which is a reference to the kid Musk had with Justine who unfortunately passed away at the age of 10 weeks from sudden infant passing syndrome.

According to the passage, Elon Musk remarked of his efforts to connect with his daughter, “I’ve made many overtures, but she doesn’t want to spend time with me.” Musk was referring to his attempts to establish a relationship with his daughter.

According to what Isaacson said, Musk feels that the progressive school in Los Angeles that Jenna attended had a significant role in molding her political beliefs. The words were quite similar to those that Musk made during an interview with the Financial Times that took place the previous year.

The father of ten children went on to say in the interview that despite the fact that their connection may have evolved, he still maintained “very good relationships with all of the other [children].” The statement was posted on social media on Father’s Day 2022, almost one month after the petition was submitted by the billionaire’s daughter. In it, he said that he loved “all my kids so much.”

Musk has not been shy about sharing his thoughts on Twitter over the preferred pronouns for those who identify as transgender or nonbinary. The CEO of SpaceX responded to criticism he received in December 2020 for a tweet that had since been removed and seemed to make fun of the usage of preferred pronouns by saying that although he “absolutely” supported transgender individuals, he considered “all these pronouns are an esthetic nightmare.”

In May 2022, one month after his daughter’s court filing, Musk also said that he intends to vote for Republican politicians going ahead. More particularly, he showed his support for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who signed the controversial “Parental Rights in Education” bill, better known as the “Don’t Say Gay” legislation. Musk’s daughter had filed the lawsuit against DeSantis in April 2022.

Elon Musk, written by Walter Isaacson and published by Simon & Schuster, is scheduled to be released on September 12 and can be pre-ordered right now.
