In the television show “I Love Lucy,” Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz played the role of the ideal marriage, and subsequently, the ideal nuclear family, playing the Ricardos. Lucille Ball played the role of Lucy Ricardo, a housewife in the middle class who gets into mischief in the iconic comedy that ran for six seasons from 1951 to 1957.
Behind the scenes, the turbulent relationship between the former Broadway diva and her Cuban bandleader husband was well known. After meeting on the studio set while shooting “Too Many Girls,” the couple began a whirlwind affair that lasted for the next six months until they eloped in November of 1940.
On July 17, 1951, Lucille and Desi became parents to Lucie Arnaz. This occurred little over a decade after the couple had been married. Desi’s son, also named Desi, was born two years later, on January 19, 1953. He was given the name Desi Arnaz Jr.
Their children appeared with their mother in the two television series that were spun off from the first program that made the family famous. In May of 1961, the creative couple filed for divorce after being married for a total of twenty years.
In 2018, Lucie discussed the connection between her parents with Closer, as well as the eventual divorce that occurred when she was nine years old. “When we were growing up, they were always arguing with one another. “There was a lot of yelling and shouting,” she stated, adding: “There was a lot of anger.”
“Their separation was a terrible experience. After then, there was the problem with alcohol. It would have been better for me if those things had never been present. We did not experience any kind of abuse, but we did go through some fairly difficult situations, and this is one of the reasons why my parents were unable to remain married.

The breakup was difficult for Lucille, who blamed herself for destroying the image that the general public had of them in the United States. One year following the conclusion of her divorce, she wed the comedian Gary Morton.
Lucie hitched the wedding with “The Doctors” actor Philip Vandervort Menegaux while she was still in her early twenties, in the year 1971. After five years of marriage, the couple filed for divorce and the case was resolved. Then, with her second husband, the actor and playwright Laurence Luckinbill, she discovered love that would last a lifetime.
Lucie and Laurence had been married for 43 years when they celebrated their anniversary on June 22, 2023. She reflected on the last morning that she woke up as a single woman on an apple orchard in the seaside city of Kingston, New York, in an Instagram post that she published on that same day.
The guests, who were members of the family and acquaintances, came on a “big yellow school bus.” During the outdoor wedding, the bride donned a “lovely cream crocheted gown” as her father escorted her down the aisle to exchange vows. She went on to say that
“…[I] made a commitment to adore Laurence Luckinbill until the day when passing would tear us apart. After 15,695 days, five children, and three grandkids, I am delighted to announce that I am still able to say, “I do.”
A few months previously, in November 2022, the actress from “Murder, She Wrote” paid homage to her “kind, talented, adorable, wise, [and] sexy” husband on the occasion of his 88th birthday.
“What an incredible haul! She added, “I love him so much” beside a picture of Laurence smiling and included a number of hashtags, such as “88 years young,” “treasure beyond measure,” and “men who inspire.”
Lucie and Laurence’s marriage resulted in the birth of two boys and a girl, in addition to the two children, Nicholas and Benjamin Luckinbill, who Laurence already had from a previous marriage.
Simon Thomas Luckinbill was born in December 1980, Joseph Henry Luckinbill arrived on New Year’s Eve 1982, and Katharine Desirée Luckinbill was born on January 11, 1985. All three of their children are named Simon Thomas Luckinbill.
As she runs after her brood of grandkids, Lucie has embraced the graying of her hair by giving herself a lively pixie cut in the style of Jame Lee Curtis. The majority of the actress’s family lives in close proximity to where she and her husband make their home in Palm Springs.
She boasted about winning the “jackpot” on Grandparents Day 2019 since they had just recently became grandparents to their first two grandkids, JD Conner and Eliza Grace Luckinbill, who were born within a span of four weeks of one another. Since then, they have been blessed with more gorgeous grandbabies.
At the age of 11, Lucie appeared on “The Lucy Show” beside her mother, which led to her becoming a second-generation television celebrity. She then went on to star in “Here’s Lucy.”
She portrayed the lead role in the television movie “Who Is the Black Dahlia?” and headed the cast of the ill-fated comedy “The Lucie Arnaz Show” in 1985 as psychologist Dr. Jane Lucas. Both of these projects were cancelled after a brief run.
The actor who was famous as a youngster has since appeared as a guest star on a number of television shows, including “Marcus Welby, M.D.,” “Murder, She Wrote,” “Fantasy Island,” “Law & Order,” and the new version of “Will & Grace.” In addition to that, she appeared in the films “Smoking Nonsmoking” and “Down to You.”
Lucie was recognized as an executive producer on three films relating to her parents: “Lucy and Desi: A Home Movie,” “I Love Lucy’s 50th Anniversary Special,” and “Being the Ricardos.” In addition, Lucie produced the documentary “The Desilu Story” in 2003. All three of these movies were tied in some way to Lucie’s parents.
She first performed her cabaret act, “I Got the Job! Songs From My Musical Past,” to a sold-out audience before the pandemic, and she announced in June 2023 that she will give an encore performance of the show at 54 Below in New York City.
Her older sister Lucie is very open about her life and family on social media, while her younger brother Desi Jr. prefers to maintain a quiet profile. His mother’s pregnancy with him was written into the program during the third season of “I Love Lucy,” and as luck would have it, he was born on the evening that the episode aired in which Lucy Ricardo gave birth to ‘Little Ricky.’

Desi Arnaz Jr. had identity difficulties as a result of people referring to him as Little Ricky when he was a child. He also started to feel competitive with the actor who performed the position at the time.
From the time he was a teenager, he had problems with substance and alcohol usage. He became a father to model Susan Howe, also 15 years old, while he was just 15 years old. Between the years 1980 and 1981, he was married to the actress Linda Purl for a short period of time.
The actor admitted his wrongdoing and made positive changes in his life with the support of his family and friends. He wed the ballerina Amy Arnaz in 1987, and they remained married until her passing in 2015. He took Haley Arnaz in as his own daughter via adoption.
