“He should be British, so British people can be any [ethnicity or race],” Broccoli added. “He should have been British.”
The conversation that Broccoli had in 2021 with The Hollywood Reporter is consistent with an interview that she gave in 2018 to The Guardian. Then, she said that the part was designed for a male actor and would continue to be played by one since that is what Fleming had in mind when he wrote it.
“Bond is of masculine gender. He is a male protagonist in the story. It was said in the book that he was a man, and I believe that he will continue to be a guy. That’s not a problem at all. She said that it was not necessary to transform masculine characters into females.
