When Shalom Nchom was nine years old, she and her sister were critically burned when a pot of boiling oil dropped on them while they were at their mother’s grocery business. Shalom Nchom is now 22 years old. Nchom, who is now a YouTuber and goes by the name Shalom Blac, has scars covering a huge amount of her shoulders, face, and chest. She also lost the majority of her hair due to the severe burns she had. Nchom covers over these wounds with cosmetics in an effort to disguise them from others, and she never truly lets people see what is behind the surface.

After having spent the previous four months in a hospital in Nigeria, Nchom, who was born in that country, was transferred to the United States by her aunt in order to have surgery. Shalom, her sister, and her mother immigrated to the United States with the assistance of Shalom’s aunt. Because of her disabilities, Shalom suffered from poor self-esteem and fought over the years to overcome the effects of bullying.

“Because I wanted to experience freedom, I began to have a strong desire to work on myself and become someone who was at ease and confident in themselves. I wanted to be in a position where I could do everything I pleased. I wanted to be able to dress in the manner in which I feel most comfortable. Because of my scars, I used to have to wear long sleeves at all times,” Nchom said in her video.

Nchom just recently shared a video of herself and her love on her YouTube channel. In the video, Nchom can be seen allowing her crush to remove her wig and cosmetics. According to Nchom, she couldn’t even walk to the 7-Eleven near her house without her makeup on, thus this was something that was very significant to her. However, Nchom has recently started giving herself challenges to go without makeup. She has even gone to Walmart without any makeup on, and she said that she was “the happiest girl” after she was successful in overcoming her challenge.

In the clip, Nchom is seen allowing her colleague YouTuber J Cook to remove her makeup. “I basically wanted to challenge myself to take off all of my makeup in front of somebody that I might have a slight crush on, you know what I mean?” “He’s adorable in my opinion,” Nchom said. Nchom remarked, “I think after doing this I’m definitely going to gain some sort of confidence in myself.” This was before Cook joined her in the video. It’s not about gaining approval from anybody else, especially not from that individual; it’s about obtaining affirmation for myself.
