Kenzie Ziegler is going intimate with her songs. The 19-year-old singer, who now goes by simply the name kenzie, recently explained in an interview with ET’s Deidre Behar how her most recent track, “anatomy,” was inspired by her alienation from her father, Kurt Ziegler.
“Since I was having these issues with my relationship with my father, I decided to discuss them with [my therapist]. “I started opening up, and then she said, ‘You should write a letter to your dad,'” Kenzie remembered. “I felt really weird about doing that, so I genuinely wrote this song just so I could send it to her and be like, ‘Here’s my letter to my dad,'” she said.
The choice to let other people hear the intimate tune was an easy one to make, as Kenzie revealed, “For the first few months that I had the demo just sitting, I was like ‘I don’t know if I’m confident enough to share this,’ because obviously, my whole family is going to hear it.”
Kenzie eventually came to the realization that the song, which she confessed is “kind of gut-wrenching,” may “help a lot of people,” and as a result, she made the decision to make it publically available.
“Everyone around me is telling me that it helps me, that it helps her, and that it helps them,” she added. “It helps me, it helps her, and it helps them.” “I believe it’s a time when it’s natural for one to go through it at this point.”
Maddie Ziegler, Kenzie’s elder sister, is one of the individuals that are on her side in this fight.
“When I played it for her, she bawled her eyes out,” Kenzie said of her sister, who is now 20 years old. “… This is her most beloved piece of music. Actually, she was the one that choreographed the music video for me, so you could say that it’s our song that we experienced together. This is pretty cool because it’s our experience, so it’s something that we shared… It’s possible that I wouldn’t let it go if she weren’t there, but I can’t say for sure.
Melissa Gisoni, Kenzie’s mother, also provided her with that sense of support.
“She started crying when I played this song for her,” I said. She is a highly sensitive person, so it is not surprising that the music caused her to shed some tears. Kenzie said that all she heard from mom was that she loved her and that she would always be there for her. “.. She said to me, ‘It’s the most beautiful song that I’ve heard you do.’ So hearing her say that was really cool.”
Kenzie also felt the affection from her boyfriend, Tacoda Dubbs, who is acknowledged in the song’s second verse in a way that is understated but nevertheless endearing.
“I believe he enjoyed it very much. Due to the fact that we have been together for three years, she believes that her boyfriend has seen her “kind of growing into myself” over the course of those years. “In the beginning of us being together, I had major trust issues just because I had this expectation that love doesn’t work out because of [my parents’] getting divorced,” she said. “I had this expectation that love doesn’t work out because of [my] parents getting divorced.”
Kenzie continued by saying, “Now that all of my walls are down and I feel so much happiness.” “To tell you the truth, it’s almost like being in a position with your closest buddy. To put it another way, we’re not just close friends but also a couple. It is appropriate for things to be this way.”
Kenzie is unclear as to whether or not her father has heard the song yet, but she has high hopes that he will at some point in the future.
“Everything that’s said in the song is precisely how I feel, and I gave some consideration to giving it to him because of that… “I have no doubt that he will take note of it,” she said. “I am still capable of feeling so much love. I mean, you’re looking at my dad there. I am unable to harbor ill will against other individuals. I love him very much even now, and he will always be a significant part of who I am.
“Our connection is complicated because there are times when we speak, and then there are times when we don’t… “To be completely honest, I have no problem with it,” Kenzie said. “I really want him to hear it since it accurately reflects how I feel in all sincerity. Never in my life would I resent him. Life is unpredictable, and sometimes things don’t go as planned. I really hope he does hear it, and that it leads to something positive.
However, according to an interview she gave to ET, her ultimate objective with the song is not to become famous; rather, she wants to be able “to repair my younger self.”
Kenzie has said that her next album, which is expected to be released sometime in the early years of 2024, would consist of her “just telling my story.”
She stated, “It’s about friendship breakups, breakups, it’s about boyfriends, and it’s about ex-boyfriends,” and that’s exactly what the song is about. “It’s about everything that happens in between.”
In addition, the singer shared with ET that she intends to go on tour after the release of the album.
