“This is the happiest I’ve ever been in all of my life.”
These are the words that Dylan Mulvaney shared with her followers as she updated them on her recovery from extensive face cosmetic surgery through a post that she made on her famous TikTok account. She promised to reveal more information and her complete makeover soon while seeming to have significant swelling and being wrapped up.
And she did, flaunting the results at this week’s Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, which was her first big public appearance after undergoing the treatment.
If you are unfamiliar with Dylan, he is a transgender content creator who is 26 years old and has over 10 million followers on the social media site Instagram.
She is well-known for her daily video series titled “Days Of Being A Girl,” which she began in March 2022 in order to capture her transformation from a boy to a girl. The creator of the show, who is often commended for the frank and genuine manner in which she communicates to her audience, follows Dylan as she navigates both the good and more problematic elements of being transgender during the course of the season.
The facial feminization surgery, often known as FFS, is a process that alters the appearance of the face to make it look more conventionally feminine. Dylan received this operation on December 17, 2022.
It largely depends on what the person wants to modify about their appearance, but it may include pushing the hairline forward to produce a smaller forehead, having improvements made to the cheeks, or having the jaw and chin shortened.
And it should come as no surprise that Dylan took her fans along for the ride.
Dylan said the day before he was scheduled to have surgery, “It’s a very privileged surgery to get,” and he was right.
I can’t wait till the day when I can look in the mirror and see a reflection of myself that is accurate.
The procedures that were performed during Dylan’s operation – which lasted for a number of hours – included an advancement of his hairline, a shave to his brow bone, a rhinoplasty, minor cheek augmentation, a tiny lip lift, a jaw shave, a reduction to his chin, and a tracheal shave.
According to what she described in a video posted on January 30, “FFS is kind of like a choose your own adventure.”
“You are able to get one of those items. You have the ability to acquire each one. “None of them are available to you,” she told me.
“It really doesn’t matter what the source of your dysphoria is. And since the process of recuperation involves a lot of work, I was aware that I needed to do everything in one fell swoop.
As Dylan said, FFS is a pricey operation that is often not covered by private health insurance since it is deemed optional and because of the cost involved.
If I hadn’t identified as transgender, I never would have looked for these kinds of shifts in my life. However, as a result of my gender dysphoria, I felt as if I need it,” she said.
“And I want all of us to begin considering FFS as having the same level of significance as other gender-affirming health care… It has in fact already provided me with a great deal of serenity,” she said. “[Therefore] I hope that we can all begin advocating for better healthcare options for trans people.”
Dylan, who performed in the touring production of the musical The Book of Mormon before the outbreak, often blogs at least once per day and often does so numerous times per day.
The public figure substantially reduced the amount of content she shared on social media while she was recuperating from surgery. Occasionally, she would provide her fans with an update on how well she was healing or share films she had produced before the operation.
After having her surgery, Dylan waited two months before eventually sharing her “face reveal” via a series of photographs on her Instagram account.
“I’m so delighted. It’s still me, after all. “It’s just a slightly more gentle rendition of the original,” she said.
Because access to gender affirming materials may completely transform a person’s life and, in some cases, even save their life, I can only hope that transgender and non-binary persons everywhere are able to get them.
