She is getting rid of one highly renowned wardrobe in order to get another!
Greta Gerwig, the director of the highly anticipated Barbie movie, reportedly has a contract with Netflix to deliver two featured film versions of the renowned Narnia property to the site that streams movies and television shows. The news was published in The Hollywood Reporter.
Ted Sarandos, CEO of Netflix, made the announcement in 2018 that the company has acquired the film and TV rights to a classic book series written by C.S. Lewis. The announcement was met with tremendous excitement and significant expectation. Despite this, the on-demand streaming service has not divulged any of its future intentions regarding the adaptation of the Chronicles of Narnia.
Now, a story on the expanding number of Hollywood efforts that Mattel is involved in that was published in the New Yorker is giving fans of the book series optimism that a new adaptation is finally on the horizon. The story focused mostly on Gerwig’s most recent work with Mattel, although it did make a passing reference to her next foray into the realm of fantasy. The filmmaker, who is 39 years old, has an interest in producing films with larger budgets and aspires to become a filmmaking powerhouse; the partnership with Netflix highlights both of these aspirations.
Before transitioning into directing with the critically acclaimed and Oscar-nominated films Lady Bird and Little Women, Gerwig got her start in the film industry writing and performing in independent films. According to The Hollywood Reporter, her forthcoming film based on the Barbie franchise will be a transition to pop music as well as one of the most anticipated movies of the year. It is expected to make a debut at the North American box office in the neighborhood of $80 million.
The filmmaker was recently seen with Barbie actress Margot Robbie showing off their tickets to a trio of summer blockbusters, one of which being Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One. The other two films in the trio were Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Mission: Impossible — Dial of Destiny.
They also displayed tickets to Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, which is scheduled to be released on the same day as Barbie (a date that has been called “Barbenheimer” by fans who can’t wait for the dramatic-to-comic double feature).

Tom Cruise, actor of Mission: Impossible, spoke about his intentions to see both films during their opening weekend at the Australian premiere of his most recent film. Cruise is a cinema aficionado who wants to see both films. “I want to see both Barbie and Openheimer,” the actor, who is 61 years old, stated. “First, I have a meeting with Oppenheimer on Friday, and then I have a meeting with Barbie on Saturday.”
