The marriage between Hargitay and Peter Hermann has lasted for close to 18 years now. They did not waste any time before falling in love. Christopher Melani, who also appeared on the program and collaborated with Hargitay, recalls the beginning of the two people’s joyful love affair.
Hargitay fell head over heels in love with Hermann the moment she laid eyes on him when he was a guest on her program. It was obvious to everybody who observed her that she had feelings for Hermann, despite her best efforts to the contrary. Soon after that, they began to spend time together by going out.
They went to church together, and during the sermon, Hargitay burst into tears because she had an epiphany and understood that Hermann would be the guy she would marry. She was overcome with emotion since she had finally found the man who would become her husband.
The two individuals began seeing one other and even brought up the topic of getting married. However, after dating for some time, they came to the conclusion that they couldn’t be together. According to Hargitay, they had both shed tears while conversing with one another.
Despite this, they were able to talk things out and reconcile their differences in order to be back together. Hermann had the epiphany that he wanted to marry Hargitay on the day she became 40 years old.
The wedding took place in Santa Barbara, California, on August 28, 2004, and both parties were in attendance.
The couple had always known that they wanted to have a family, so around two years after they had tied the knot, they were overjoyed to learn that they were going to become parents.
The period of pregnancy was not a pleasant one, unfortunately. By the time she reached her third trimester of pregnancy, Hargitay had put on a significant amount of weight and as a consequence had acquired gestational diabetes. They had their first child together on June 28, 2006, a boy they named August. Hargitay was overjoyed to become a mother despite the fact that she had a difficult time both becoming pregnant and giving birth.
A daughter named Amaya Josephine was adopted by the couple after a few years had passed. The adoption of their son Andrew took place six months later.
Hargitay acknowledges that her experience as a mom has been enriching, despite the fact that she acknowledges that it has not always been simple. She also said that it was necessary for her to figure out how to reconcile the demands of her job with those of her family.
After having been married for close to twenty years, the pair has established a reputation for being one of the most progressive couples in Hollywood.
According to Hermann, there is no magic formula for a happy marriage that lasts a lifetime. He went on to say that this does not imply that they are simple, but it also does not imply that they are complex. He said that it all boils down to the fundamentals, such as being courteous, having good listening skills, and engaging in just and equitable conflict.
