In the year 2022, Shakira’s private life was a complete mess. The Colombian music artist, who is now 46 years old, and her longtime lover, Gerard Piqué, issued a joint statement in June of that year announcing their decision to end their relationship, and things have only gotten uglier since then.
In a recent interview with People en Espanol, Shakira reveals that her father, William Mubarak Chadid, was on his way to see her in Barcelona, Spain, during the breakup, when he was involved in an accident that “gravely injured” him.
“Everything took place at the same time. My house was in terrible condition. Shakira reveals her story to the magazine, saying, “While my father was in the intensive care unit, I was finding out through the press that I had been betrayed.”
The singer best known for her hit single “Hips Don’t Lie” is co-parenting her kids Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7, with a former soccer player who is now 36 years old. The singer claims that her father’s battles with his health have left her even more bewildered.
Shakira has said that there were times when she believed she “wasn’t going to survive,” adding, “The man I have loved the most in my life — my father — was leaving me when I needed him the most.” I was unable to communicate with him or seek guidance from my closest friend since I was in such desperate need of it.
We are quite fortunate that her father is still with us and is making progress in his rehabilitation.
Shakira praises both her father, Chadid, and her mother, Nidia del Carmen Ripoll Torrado, for their resiliency. “My dad is the biggest example of resilience, and my mother has been by his side day and night,” Shakira says of her parents. “Both of them have been a manifestation of that dream that I was unable to make a reality for myself. But I really hope that they will serve as examples of love, patience in relationships, complete commitment, and enthusiasm for life for my children.
After more than a decade together, Shakira and Piqué ended their relationship in 2022. In an article published in September, Shakira discussed the separation openly.
She went on to say that the formerly “sacred” connection she had with Piqué had been “turned into something vulgarized and cheapened” as a result of the sensational headlines that surrounded their breakup, and she described the time as “probably the darkest hour of my life.”
It is said that Shakira found evidence that Piqué was cheating on her with Clara Ch’a, who is 24 years old and the woman he is currently openly seeing.
After some time, she released the breakup single “BZRP Music Session #53,” which seemed to cast some shade on Piqué and Cha.
