A fireman called Mike Thawley, who works on Engine No. 14 for the Sacramento Fire Department, came upon a pit bull named Chunk that was in a deplorable situation. Chunk was outside in the rain by himself, tied up, and seemed to be ill. He had no hair. Compelled by empathy, Thawley took it upon himself to save the stray puppy that had been abandoned. He gave her a bath and then took her to the local animal shelter, where she was treated for the mange by the staff there. Chunk, who was overwhelmed with gratitude, had a close relationship with Thawley, who first abandoned her at the animal shelter but returned the next day to be reunited with the ecstatic puppy.

On their Facebook page, the Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento, California, delighted visitors with video footage of the touching reunion of Thawley and Chunk. The post was posted by the shelter. In the touching video, Chunk expresses his appreciation to Thawley for finding the ill puppy and bringing her in for some TLC. The post on the animal shelter’s Facebook page describes how Thawley spotted the ailing puppy and brought her in for treatment. Chunk’s elation upon seeing Thawley, the person who had saved her life, was recorded on tape at the time that he paid another visit to the animal shelter.

Because of a fortunate turn of circumstances, Thawley brought up the idea of fostering Chunk to his family, which ultimately led to the adoption of Chunk by the Thawley household. During the course of Chunk’s treatment for non-contagious mange, they developed a deep affection for her, and she eventually became a treasured part of their family. Chunk even got to dress up in Christmas clothing for the season thanks to Thawley’s wife, who adored dressing Chunk up for special occasions. Even though Chunk’s tale had a happy ending, it should serve as a reminder that there are animals in shelters all over the globe that need to be rescued and cared for since not all of them have such positive fates.
