On Friday, the Duggar family received some joyful news when Jed Duggar and his wife Katey announced the birth of their second child, a baby girl whom they have named Nora Kate.
“She has arrived! And we couldn’t be happier,” the happy pair said on their social networking platform of choice. In addition to that, they kept a vlog on YouTube in which they discussed their delivery. “Welcome to the world, sweet girl,” the welcoming party said.
Nora joins her older brother Truett Oliver, who celebrated his first birthday on May 2. After keeping their relationship private for more than a year, Jed and Katey made the happy announcement that they were getting married in April of 2021.
It’s a ray of sunshine for the reality-show family in the midst of an otherwise challenging season. Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets, a new docuseries that premiered on Prime Video on Friday, delves deeper into the Duggar family’s lifestyle as it relates to the teachings of disgraced pastor Bill Gothard and the Institute in Basic Life Principles, or IBLP, which is a non-denominational Christian organization that advocates homeschooling, female subservience, and conservative values.
Jill Duggar Dillard, who is separated from her brother Jed, comes out in the documentary. The film also discusses the allegations of child abuse made against their eldest brother Josh and his subsequent conviction for child pornography. Jill claims that she has fallen out of favor with her family ever since she distanced herself from the teachings of the IBLP and stepped away from the limelight that came with becoming a reality television star.
“Everything within the family dynamic has shifted, and not for the better,” she says of the current state of affairs between herself and the other members of the Duggar family.
She makes the observation that “my dad does control a lot of things within the family,” which is true. The connections among the family had already become rather tense.
“We’re very much on the outside with the family,” says Derick, who is Jill’s husband.
