The employees at City of San Antonio Animal Care Services (SAACS) were recently alerted to an emergency situation when they got a panicked call about a dog that was stuck on an active train track. The person who made the emergency call was unable to determine if the dog had been purposefully abandoned there or whether his leash had just been snagged on the rail, but they were aware that they needed to take swift action before a train came barreling through the area.
Animal Care Officer Edwards raced to the incident and discovered the yellow Labrador, who was eventually given the name Lucky, lying on the railway tracks. Officer Edwards saw how bad Lucky’s predicament was when he drew closer to the dog as he continued his approach.

“Officer Edwards noticed the leash tied to Lucky’s neck was secured to the tracks with a nail, tightening more and more as he pulled away,” SAACS stated on Facebook. “As Lucky pulled away, the nail tightened more and more.” “Lucky was extremely shaken up and in no way prepared to put her faith in anyone else.”
Officer Edwards was determined to win Lucky’s confidence and rescue him off the railway tracks before it arrived, despite the fact that Lucky was terrified of the situation. The animal control officer approached the dog in a cautious manner and was eventually successful in capturing him with a humane catch pole after a few minutes had passed.
Officer Edwards’ biggest dread suddenly became a reality as he was removing the dog’s trapped leash from around his neck. At that moment, he heard a train rumbling in the background.
According to what SAACS reported, “Officer Edwards moved quickly and safely while assisting Lucky off the tracks.” A train sped by just as they were making their way back to the van that was being used to carry the animals, thus they were late.

Lucky was thankfully sheltered in Officer Edwards’ arms by the time the speeding train came barreling through the crossing. They got in the van just in time to see the train go by, and then they set out on Lucky’s brand-new and thrilling adventure.
The staff at SAACS greeted Lucky with wide arms when he arrived and performed a comprehensive examination on him before putting him in his very own kennel. The once-shy dog, who now had a secure spot to rest his head at night, gradually became more comfortable interacting with other people.
According to what was written in the SAACS file, “After some time to settle down, Lucky seems to feel much more open to befriending people.” “[He] needs a family that will be with him [forever]!”

Within a week of posting the heartbreaking story of Lucky’s rescue on Facebook, SAACS was inundated with comments from people wanting to know more about the dog. After seeing SAACS’s article, one gentleman, identified only as Mr. C., fell head over heels in love with Lucky. He made an appointment to meet Lucky, and as soon as they did, Mr. C. came to the conclusion that the canine would be an excellent companion for him.
“As soon as I met him, I was able to tell that he was the sort of dog who would be a good addition to my family. According to what Mr. C told SAACS, which was then published on Facebook, “he was so chill and unbothered.”

Mr. C. spent the better part of a quarter of an hour chatting with Lucky at SAACS before making the final decision to take him home permanently. A few days later, the adoption of Lucky was confirmed, and the lovable canine was officially prepared to begin his new life with a family that cared for him.
Lucky, who was subsequently renamed Duke, has now acclimated to his new environment and is more content than he has ever been with his new father.
In spite of the fact that Duke’s friends at SAACS are still baffled as to how he came to be on the train tracks, they are overjoyed that they were able to save him in the nick of time and provide him with the life he deserved.
“We’re not sure if Lucky’s leash caught the nail as he walked past or if someone secured him,” SAACS stated. “We don’t know.” “But we are beyond grateful to those who reported this situation to 3-1-1, and Animal Care Officer Edwards for getting him to safety!” “But we are beyond grateful to those who reported this situation to 3-1-1.”
