Pay Attention, Most Valued Audience Member! It seems that Bridgerton will be returning. The much-loved Regency love story, Queen Charlotte, is now wrapping up post-production on the much anticipated third season. The show’s launch in May was met with resounding delight, and the series has been a critical and commercial success ever since. Followers of the high-society drama are now anxiously awaiting word — maybe from Lady Whistledown herself — on the publication of the next chapter in the series.
The romance novel series written by Julia Quinn, which includes a total of eight books, is the source of both the town’s name and its inspiration. Each part in the series focuses on the life of one of the Bridgerton children: Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), Benedict (Luke Thompson), Colin (Luke Newton), Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor), Eloise (Claudia Jessie), Francesca (Ruby Stokes/Hannah Dodd), Gregory (Will Tilston), and Hyacinth (Florence Hunt).
That took place between Daphne and her husband Simon, the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), which was based on the plot of Quinn’s debut book, The Duke and I. Following Quinn’s second book, The Viscount Who Loved Me, which chronicled the adversaries-to-lovers narrative of Anthony and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley), the second season of the show followed in its footsteps.
The sequencing of events in the first two seasons on Netflix was the same as in the novels. However, Quinn’s fourth novel, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, which concentrates on the love story between Colin and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), will serve as the inspiration for the third season of the show, which will be largely based on the book.
In May 2022, Coughlan broke the news herself at the Bridgerton FYSEE panel, and Rhimes subsequently confirmed it on Instagram.
Penelope (Coughlan), who has had a long-standing infatuation on Colin (Newton), is shown in the official description of season 3 on Netflix to have given up on their relationship after hearing Colin’s scathing statements about her in the previous season. However, she has come to the conclusion that the time has come for her to wed, and that the ideal partner for her would be someone who would give her sufficient autonomy to enable her to maintain her double life as Lady Whistledown while living far away from her mother and sisters. Penelope’s efforts to find a husband on the marriage market, however, are met with resounding failure due to her lack of self-assurance.
In the meanwhile, Colin has changed his appearance and developed a serious air of swagger since returning from his travels over the summer. But it’s disheartening for him to know that Penelope, the one person who has always accepted him for who he is, is turning her back on him now. He was always close with her. Colin, who is eager to gain back Penelope’s friendship, proposes that he teach Penelope the ways of confidence in order to assist her in finding a spouse during this season. However, as Colin’s teachings begin to work a bit too well, he is forced to wrestle with the question of whether or not his emotions for Penelope are actually merely friendly.

While Penelope’s rising prominence in the ton makes it all the more difficult to keep her Lady Whistledown alter identity a secret, her gap with Eloise, who has found a new friend in a very unexpected place, is further complicating things for Penelope. Eloise has found a new companion in a very odd place.
Rhimes made a veiled suggestion in March 2022 that the show would not be adapting the novel in the same chronology, but she reaffirmed her desire to present the stories of all the characters. “There are eight Bridgerton siblings, so we plan on following each one of the siblings’ romantic stories,” she added. “The Bridgertons are a very romantic family.” “We are not going to necessarily go in order, but we are going to see each of the siblings and their stories,” the guide said.
Up to this point, Bridgerton has been picked up for a fourth season. It’s possible that Benedict, the character whose romantic endeavors were the centerpiece of Quinn’s third novel, may take the spotlight then.
The relationship between young Queen Charlotte (played by India Amarteifio) and King George (Corey Mylchreest), which took place many decades before the events of Bridgerton, is shown in the film Queen Charlotte and is based on a genuine event. The six-part narrative, which is being marketed as a limited series, presents the story in two different time periods: the first is set during the reign of young Charlotte, while the second serves as a bridge between seasons 2 and 3 of Bridgerton.
Even though the author worked closely with Rhimes to build Queen Charlotte’s plot, the character of Queen Charlotte was not included in the original book series written by Quinn. Together, the two collaborated to write Queen Charlotte: Before the Bridgertons, there was the love tale that transformed the ton…, which was published on May 9, the same day that the program began airing.
Will Queen Charlotte have an impact on the third season of Bridgerton?
In May of 2023, Shonda Rhimes said to ET that there are a few narrative elements and story secrets that would most certainly be played out in the next season of Bridgerton.
In Queen Charlotte, the flash-forwards followed the older main heroine as she pleaded with her 13 adult children to find a good husband and have a child so that she may inherit the throne. By the time the season was through, she had learned that she, King George’s fourth-eldest son, Prince Edward, and his wife, Princess Victoria, were expecting a child together, and that the child would be a girl. According to the annals of history, this kid would one day become the renowned Queen Victoria of Great Britain and take the throne.

Rhimes said, “I don’t know that we’re going to see her children or any of that,” when asked whether these storylines will be incorporated into the wider fabric of Bridgerton. “For me and Golda, who plays Queen Charlotte on Bridgerton, [it is] sort of her front-of-the-house persona, who she is when she is in front of the people.” But Queen Charlotte is the one who runs the show behind the scenes. I felt it would be an interesting dynamic for me to experiment with because you can see her taking care of the children and you can see her being a mother.
Queen Charlotte and Bridgerton were both the subjects of films that Rosheuvel shot simultaneously. “It was very informative,” she told ET in a separate interview. “I enjoyed it very much.” “It was unusual to say the least. It was a disorienting experience.” The actress continued by saying, “I will take forward [in Bridgerton] a lot of the stuff that was established in Queen Charlotte.” You are able to utilize it as an additional layer.”
Yes. In March of 2023, Netflix made the announcement that work on the third season of Bridgerton had come to an end. In July 2022, as production of the new season started, the cast was featured in a promotional video for the program in which they each held up three fingers to symbolize the beginning of the next chapter in their lives.
