It’s possible that Whoopi Goldberg will run into some issues with The View’s network, ABC. This week, the co-host of a talk show who is 67 years old voiced their opposition to another ABC program while participating in a panel discussion.
While discussing the latest documentary about Anna Nicole Smith titled “You Don’t Know Me,” Goldberg brought up the topic of society’s preoccupation with passing judgment on other people.
Goldberg was quoted as saying, “I think, you know, that we as a society love to watch stuff, and we love to judge people.” “I’ve always believed that… what’s the name of that show? was the beginning of the beginning of the downfall of society,” the speaker said.
One of the producers smiled and responded, “That’s American Idol on ABC.”

“ABC did not always broadcast it. Goldberg continued by saying that the music competition show originally aired on a different network when it first got started.
She went on to explain why she felt the way she did about Idol, saying that “once we gave individuals the right to criticize other people, I think we ran amok… They want the general public to make the determination as to who that person was. It started us off on a cyclical path.”
As the producer of The View and Goldberg’s other panelists pushed her to maintain a good attitude regarding their show, she admitted that “When I started watching it, ABC didn’t have it. It wasn’t the same show at all. This is not your typical presentation at all. The judges are of varying backgrounds… ABC is aware of how I feel in this regard. They are aware of it. That issue is unrelated to them in any way. It is related to the show in some way.”
Idol debuted on Fox in 2002, and it didn’t take long for the show to become an integral part of the cultural landscape. A large part of this success can be attributed to judge Simon Cowell, who was notorious for giving competitors cutting comments. Throughout the eight seasons of the competition, Cowell and the other judges, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, gave their compliments and criticisms to the competitors. Since then, there have been a number of different celebrities serving in the role of judge on the show. At this time, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan are serving as the panelists for the competition.
