Kirsten Dunst is highly respected by Elle Fanning.
The 25-year-old L’Oréal Paris International spokesperson named her The Beguiled co-star as an actress she has “always looked up to” while discussing those in the business she has gained the most knowledge from in an interview with PEOPLE on Wednesday at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
I’m extremely lucky, I guess. I am quite rich. The Super 8 actress, who has worked in television and movies since she was a young child, says she also adores Kirsten Dunst. And I often wonder about how she transitioned from being a kid performer to who she is today and maintained that endurance.
“Since you’ve been around a while, you want to keep surprising both yourself and other people. She refers to actress Kirsten Dunst, who made her name in 1994 with Interview with the Vampire and won her first Oscar nod in 2022 for The Power of the Dog, as having “done that,” adding, “And I think that’s something she’s done.”
She’s also a little genre-less. She plays such dramatic characters but is also extremely humorous, says Fanning of the Spider-Man actress. She frequently makes decisions that are intriguing. And I’ve always admired her as well.

In addition to praising Dunst, Fanning calls Nicole Kidman, who she co-starred with in How to Talk to Girls at Parties and The Beguiled, “my ultimate role model.” She also cited Angelina Jolie and Ben Affleck as having a significant impact on her career.
I got to work with him as an actor and see him direct, which was fascinating to me because I want to direct someday. She says of Affleck, who was both her co-star and the director of the 2016 crime film Live By Night, “I might, I don’t know if I would put myself in the project because it seems so overwhelming to do that.”

“He does it effortlessly. Regarding the Argo filmmaker’s abilities to oversee movies he writes, stars in, and directs, she calls him a “incredible writer.” “That script was fantastic, but seeing him was really cool. He would just remark, “I have to say cut,” after we had a scene together.
It was just amazing. The delicate balancing act of needing to divide your thoughts into those sections,” says Fanning. the was the main lesson I learned from the project, I said.
Fanning previously revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that she was once told she was passed over for a major movie role “because I didn’t have enough Instagram followers at the time.” Fanning is now starring in the fourth season of her Hulu series The Great.
She admitted on the program, “I didn’t get a part once for something big.” The only criticism I received at the time was that I didn’t have enough Instagram followers, however it may not have been the only one.
That “firmly” doesn’t “believe” in “ever not getting a part” due to a social media follower count, Fanning continued, “That was a little like, ‘OK,’ ” adding that she felt “a little like, ‘OK,'”
In Cannes, France, the Cannes Film Festival will continue through May 27.
