Sin City included a brief appearance by Barbie.
During the Tuesday morning presentation given by Warner Bros. at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas for the CinemaCon convention, the film Barbie directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling was shown. The production company invited Gerwig, Robbie, and Gosling to the Colosseum stage, where they were joined by co-star America Ferrera, with the purpose of discussing the Mattel project and presenting several minutes of previously unseen footage. The new video follows the recent unveiling of a trailer and character posters earlier this month. Both of these items can be seen here.
On stage, Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, co-presidents of Warner Bros., had a short conversation with the four individuals. She said that it was Robbie who “invited me on this journey,” which was one that she took as a co-writer together with her real-life boyfriend Noah Baumbach. Gerwig also shared further information on how she came to write and direct the picture. “When I was writing with Noah, there was a point in the process when we were making each other laugh all the time, and when it ended, we were making each other cry.”
At one point in the early stages of the creative process, Baumbach expressed interest in directing the movie himself, but Gerwig has said that she discouraged him by telling him to “step aside, this is mine.” She went on to say, “There was a time when I was so enamored with it that I couldn’t picture anyone else doing it.” Speaking of which, she said that throughout the course of writing, they cast Gosling, someone she had never met but whose name she included in the screenplay, and “luckily he said yes.”

Gosling received the most laughter from the full audience sitting throughout the presentation. It began when De Luca questioned the actor about how he was able to channel his inner Ken while wearing a blush pink coat and a white t-shirt with the name of his director printed on it. Gosling got the most chuckles from the crowd. “I have to tell you the truth; up until this point, Ken was someone I had only known from a distance. “I never really got to know Ken on a personal level,” the actor added. “If I’m being really candid, there were times when I questioned my Kenergy. I didn’t see it. I get the distinct impression that Margot and Greta have coaxed this information out of me from some other source.
Gosling said that he was enjoying his life when “one day, I was bleaching my hair and shaving my legs and wearing bespoke neon outfits and rollerblading down Venice Beach.” Gosling was referring to the time when he went through a drastic transformation. It developed into a fever, similar to that of scarlet fever.” For example, “How come there is self-tanner on my sheets? Why am I walking around without a shirt on under these jackets? What exactly just took place” Even De Luca had to take a moment to reflect on Gosling’s comments and offer some compliments to him. He remarked, “Best answer,” on your response.
In regard to Ferrera, she has stated that although she was not a Barbie girl growing up, she believes that everyone has feelings about Barbie “whether you know it or not.” After reading the emotionally charged story that Gerwig and Baumbach had written, she was eager to be involved. “There were times when I couldn’t tell whether I was smiling or sobbing at any given moment. By the time it was through, I had transformed into a Barbie girl, which is a tribute to Miss Gerwig, who deserves every penny that she can get for doing that. De Luca said definitively, “She will. That’s a guarantee from Warner Bros., Inc.
Gerwig paid thanks to the numerous creative people who worked with her on the film by revealing that she sobbed the first time she stepped foot on the set and witnessed how the set and production design teams built the world of Barbie. “There was such genuine emotion that was put into each and every object.”
Robbie said that there were other films being shot on neighboring soundstages, one of which being the next chapter of the Fast and Furious franchise, and that the cast and crew members from those films were unable to stay away. Robbie told him, “You’ve never seen so many grown men find excuses to come to set,” and he said it with a laugh. “It was just like getting a jolt of dopamine. You seemed to be joyful in an instant, and we could sense your joy on a daily basis.
When Gosling said, “I think I finally knew what Dorothy felt like,” he once again elicited massive amounts of laughter from the audience.
Gerwig revealed a previously unseen video that expanded on the plot of the Barbie movie in order to provide additional information. The main character, played by Robbie, seems to be living a normal life in technicolor until odd occurrences begin to take place, such as cold showers and burned waffles, and then she develops the worst possible condition: flat feet. Her fellow Barbies advise her to see “weird Barbie,” portrayed by Kate McKinnon, who presents her with two choices: she may either return to her normal Barbie life or live more like real life, which is represented by a stiletto or a Birkenstock, respectively.
After that, Barbie sets out on her adventure to the real world, where she is astonished to find Ken waiting for her in the backseat of the convertible to the tune of the Indigo Girls’ song “Closer to Fine.”
The film adaptation of Barbie chooses Robbie to play the titular role and Gosling to play Ken. The following is a synopsis of the story provided by Warner Bros.: “To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place.” Unless, of course, you’re going through a full-blown existential crisis. Or you’re a Ken.” Will Ferrell, Ana Cruz Kayne, Emma Mackey, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Scott Evans, Jamie Demetriou, Connor Swindells, Sharon Rooney, Nicola Coughlan, Ritu Arya, Dua Lipa, and Helen Mirren are among the actors who have supporting roles in the movie?
On July 21, Warner Bros. Pictures, which is presenting a picture that was produced by Heyday Films, LuckyChap Entertainment, and Mattel Productions, will premiere the film exclusively in cinemas throughout the country. The film will begin its rollout internationally on July 19, which is a few days earlier than the domestic release date. The script for “Barbie” was written by Gerwig and her real-life boyfriend Noah Baumbach, and it was based on Mattel’s first iteration of the Barbie doll. Gerwig directed the film.
David Heyman, Robbie, Tom Ackerley, and Robbie Brenner are members of the team responsible for producing the picture. Executive producer credentials were awarded to Michael Sharp, Josey McNamara, Ynon Kreiz, Courtenay Valenti, and Toby Emmerich, among others. Cate Adams also earned executive producer credit.
On Greta Gerwig’s creative team are members such as the Oscar-nominated director of photography Rodrigo Prieto (The Irishman), production designer Sarah Greenwood (Beauty and the Beast), editor Nick Houy (Little Women), costume designer Jacqueline Durran (Little Women), visual effects supervisor Glen Pratt (Paddington 2), music supervisor George Drakoulias (White Noise), and composer Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water).
Jeff Goldstein and Andrew Cripps, who are in charge of distribution for Warner Bros., began the presentation by extending a warm greeting to the audience. Both men were dressed in bright pink suits with matching ties and shoes. As they walked out onto the stage, the legendary hit song “Barbie World” by Aqua was playing over the speakers in the Colosseum. Goldstein, who also said that this year is a significant one for Warners as it celebrates its 100th anniversary, questioned, “By a show of hands, who wore it better, Andrew or me?” Goldstein also mentioned that this year is a historic one for Warners. “As Barbie never fails to remind us, ‘Everyone always looks better in pink. Hey, baby, you’re in Las Vegas. We are both over the moon with excitement.
Even the head of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav, brought up the movie during his introductory comments, complimenting the film’s star and producer, Margot Robbie, calling her “brilliant” and describing her as “an incredible actress and entrepreneur.” He reserved his most complimentary remarks for Gerwig, whom he said to as “one of the great writers and directors of her generation” by any standard.
