In the film “Strange Way of Life,” Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal’s relationship is fraught with tension.
On Wednesday, the first trailer for the forthcoming short drama film was released. The film stars Ethan Hawke, 52, and Pedro Pascal, 48, as two men who are reunited after more than two decades in a Western setting that is explosive.
“The guy, whose name is Pascal, rides a horse across the desert that lies between him and Bitter Creek. “He comes to visit Sheriff Jake (Hawke),” the film’s director, Pedro Almodóvar (Parallel Mothers), revealed of the film’s premise in a statement that was published by the Cannes Film Festival, where the picture would have its world premiere the following month. “He comes to visit Sheriff Jake,” Hawke uttered.
His summary continues with the following: “Twenty-five years earlier, both the sheriff and Silva, the rancher who rides out to meet him, worked together as hired gunmen,” “Silva visits with the excuse of reuniting with his friend from his youth, and they do indeed celebrate their meeting, but the next morning Sheriff Jake tells him that the reason for his trip is not to go down memory lane of their old friendship….”
Almodóvar, who is 73 years old, said at Cannes that the film’s title “alludes to the famous fado by Amalia Rodrigues, whose lyrics suggest that there is no stranger existence than the one that is lived by turning your back on your own desires.”
“You never loved me—in fact, you never loved anyone in your entire life!” Jake is startled when Silva shouts at him, and he reacts by pointing a rifle at the rancher’s face and saying, “Don’t say that,” while whispering in the trailer.
A short time after that, Jake is seen lying in a bed after sustaining injuries, and Silva is seen attending to him at his bedside.
Jake is told by Silva that he once posed the question of what two men might accomplish while cohabitating on a ranch. “Allow me to respond at this time.”
According to Variety’s story, Almodóvar and the rest of the crew behind Strange Way of Life will take part in a talk around the premiere of the film in Cannes in May.
In an interview with IndieWire that took place in June of 2016, Almodóvar characterized the narrative as “intimate,” although he refrained from making too many comparisons between Strange Way of Life and the film Brokeback Mountain, which was released in 2005.
According to what he shared with the media source, “the relationship between these two guys is completely animalistic.” “It was a connection that included physical contact. The climactic moment of the film occurs when they are forced to part ways, and Heath Ledger realizes that he is unable to contemplate going his own way. That is an important piece of information.
“But until that moment, it is animalistic, and for me, it was impossible to have that in the movie because it was a Hollywood movie,” Almodóvar remarked. “It was impossible for me to have that in the movie because it was a Hollywood movie.” You couldn’t really have these two men sleeping together all the time, could you?
The film was produced by Agustin Almodóvar, who was also responsible for El Deseo. The soundtrack was composed by Alberto Iglesias, and the supporting cast included Pedro Casablanc, Manu Rós, George Steane, José Condessa, Jason Fernández, Sara Sálamo, Ohiana Cueto, and Daniela Medina.
According to Variety, Esther Garca acts as the film’s executive producer, while Barbara Peiró, Diego Pajuelo, and Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello are among the film’s associate producers. Annie Proulx’s short tale served as the inspiration for the novel Strange Way of Life, which was written by Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana.
