A pregnant mother dog was brought to the Boone Area Humane Society after being left there for 24 hours while she was in the delivery process.
She required an emergency cesarean section and passed out twice following; nevertheless, she was eventually brought back to a stable state. At the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University, she received a blood transfusion and was carefully monitored in the intensive care unit (ICU).

The Boone Area Humane Society stated on Facebook: “The physicians at ISU also told us that this gal is an elderly dog and has had multiple litters of puppies in the past,”…

“She should have been in her golden years,” the narrator adds, “but she was reared and then dumped when her labor got difficult.” “She should have been in her golden years.”
The mother dog gave birth to 21 puppies, but despite the best efforts of the veterinarians, all of them passed very shortly after birth.

All of the babies were undeveloped, and there was no possibility that their mother could have provided them with sufficient nutrients while she was carrying 21 other puppies at the same time.
The mother dog, Ruthie, is showing signs of improvement each day. She is now eating on her own and getting up to go outdoors. She has a pleasant personality and has been discharged from the medical facility to go to her new foster home, where she will continue her recovery after having been there for some time.

In the meanwhile, the Humane Society is doing all in their power to pursue charges against the person who abandoned Ruthie; however, they are under the impression that this will be a lengthy and difficult struggle due to the fact that Iowa’s laws protecting animals are insufficient.
