These days, Billy Gardell reports that he is feeling a lot better physically.
The former star of Mike & Molly discussed his weight loss journey with Entertainment Tonight in an interview that was released on Monday. He said that his current weight “floats between 205 and 210.”
“I believe that you need to make peace with yourself, and at some point, you will have to look in the mirror and realize that it is probably time for you to start taking care of yourself. Then I did not get that message in the beginning,” Gardell, who is now 53, said. “So I’m a huge believer that when you get it, you get it. It makes no difference when it happens. As long as you receive it.”
Despite the fact that the star of the comedy joked about the “little things” he didn’t enjoy dealing with due to his increased weight, he said that “for the most part, [it’s all good.]”
The actor said that one benefit is the opportunity to shop at a wider variety of clothes outlets. “On top of all the health-related benefits, it’s been a wonderful blessing. That was the most important thing,” he went on to say.
Gardell said that he no longer suffers from type 2 diabetes and that it is “gone. No diabetes, and a decrease in resting heart rate from 113 to 68 beats per minute. These days I’d say I’m walking around quite healthy.”
Gardell said to ET that in order to keep his body in excellent shape, he requested that the producers of his show install a weight bench and some adjustable weights in his trailer so that he may work out whenever he gets the chance while he is filming.
Concerning his eating habits, the actor who plays Bob Hearts Abishola has been quoted as saying, “I go small, but I eat very healthy.” To tell you the truth, I eat just like all of the individuals I used to make fun of.
But Gardell isn’t missing any of the meals that he used to eat, as he said to the outlet, “I’ve got my fill, and now I’m at the place where I can have a couple of bites of something decadent if I want.”
Despite this, Gardell claims that he continues to face criticism regardless of his body mass: “Of course, there are always people online who, when I was heavy, they’re like, ‘You’re too heavy.'” And now people are asking me, ‘Are you sick?’ “Excuse me, but is it possible for me to walk through the Earth?”
Gardell shared with ET his thoughts on what he has discovered about himself as a result of his efforts to lead a better lifestyle, saying, “Self-care is important, and I think I finally got there.” My one and only remaining addiction are smoking cigarettes, but I’m doing all I can to kick the habit.
“I have a child, and when you hit 50, you start doing that dad math, like, ‘If I can live 25 more years, then he’ll be 40.'” As a result, I feel it’s important to be here for him,” he said.
As a consequence of this, Gardell feels that his connection with his son William, who is now 20 years old, has evolved as a result of his serving as a model for him in this capacity.
I’ve been an example in a lot of good ways for my child.” Therefore, I want him to understand that it does not make a difference how old you are. You can alter anything in your life if you are ready to take things one day at a time and put in the effort. That was the point I wanted him to take away from it.
After that, Gardell said that he had finally gone through with the gastric bypass procedure that he had been debating getting for two years. “The only thing I would say is to understand that the operation is not the end, it’s the beginning,” he told ET. “That’s the only thing I would say.”
“Because what you have to commit to on the other side of it is what you need to look at.” Gardel cautioned against carrying out the action. However, the proof of the pudding is in the eating if you are willing to commit to doing so on a regular basis.
When Gardell was asked why he did not go through with the weight-loss operation the first two times, he recalls responding, “I couldn’t even get my brain around it. But as the pain in my knees increased and as the numbers on my blood test continued to become worse, I realized that in this life, there are moments when you just have to give up.”
He went on to say that “Asking for help is the thing that people are most terrified about, but in my opinion, it is the very thing where strength is born.” When you reach the point when you are able to confidently declare, “I can’t do this by me,” then the army will come charging up over the hill.
