Over the course of more than two decades, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson have collaborated on a variety of projects and have had a productive working relationship. However, McConaughey revealed the shocking news when he brought up the possibility that his close friend and co-star may really be his long-lost biological half brother.
During an appearance on the podcast program “Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa,” Matthew McConaughey said that he has always wondered if there was more to this bromance with his “True Detective” co-star Woody Harrelson ever since his mother, Mary McCabe, dropped hints that she “knew” Charles Harrelson, Woody’s dad. McCabe was referring to the fact that she “knew” Charles Harrelson. According to McConaughey, his mother’s comment was so laden that he and Woody sought to dig out their parents’ background. McConaughey added that his mother’s statement was that heavy.
McCabe, a noted novelist and school teacher, wed NFL star James McConaughey in the 1950s but went through two divorces before the actor was born in 1969. McConaughey was named after his father, James McConaughey. In his autobiography titled “Greenlights,” the actor, who is the third and youngest of the McConaughey children, writes that his parents had a difficult relationship. He even details an instance from his youth in which his mother and father were aggressive with each other, only to end up making love to one other. In 1992, the elder McConaughey passed away when he was spending quality time with his mother.
On the other hand, Charles was a professional assassin who had been moving often between prisons since the 1960s. Even though Woody, who was born in 1961, claimed to have a healthy connection with his father, Charles, Woody’s father, wasn’t in his life all that often due to the fact that his parents divorced when Woody was young. In 2007, Charles passed away while he was incarcerated.
During the time when Charles was on furlough during the second time that McConaughey’s parents divorced, McConaughey had the suspicion that Charles may have slept with his mother. After the birth of their first child, Michael, his parents had fertility issues, which led to the adoption of their second child, Patrick. This pointed in the direction of Charles being the actor’s biological father being a significant possibility.
McConaughey continued by saying that he and Woody had been complimented on their striking resemblance on several occasions, most notably by members of both of their respective families.
“You see images of us, and many of my relatives are under the impression that the pictures of him are really of me. The actor revealed this information to Ripa during their conversation on the podcast. “His family thinks that a lot of pictures of me are him,” the actor said.
McConaughey first met Woody, who was already a TV celebrity at the time, on the set of “EDtv” in 1999. Since then, the two actors have collaborated on three separate films, including “Surfer, Dude” in 2008 and “True Detective” in 2014. Both of these gentlemen were admitted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame within a span of three years of one another. They both hail from Texas.
McConaughey has said that he is still hesitant to undergo a DNA test despite Woody’s enthusiasm to do so, despite the fact that the mystery surrounding their connection has been driving him crazy. The actor has said that he is not prepared just yet.

Not only will McConaughey and Woody feature in the program, but they will also be involved behind the scenes as executive producers. As this publication goes to print, the release date for the series has not yet been disclosed.
