Anya Taylor-Joy has Jack Black, who plays her co-star, to credit, in part, for her ability to speak two languages.
Taylor-Joy, who is now 26 years old and plays Princess Peach in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, recently revealed to Buzzfeed that as a youngster she found herself watching the movie School of Rock, which was released in 2003 and starred Jack Black, “every Friday” at school.
She admitted feeling “super starstruck” when doing press with her Mario Bros. costar Black, 53, who portrays Bowser in the new animated feature. “Yeah, at the school I went to when I first moved to London they would play School of Rock every Friday,” she told the site. Black also voices Bowser in the new film.
“At that time, I didn’t really speak much English, if any, so that, along with Harry Potter and Jumanji, are like how I learned English,” she continued.
The comment that Taylor Joy made about how she picked up the language was made as she was gushing over Black, 53 when the two of them met for the first time on the press tour for the Mario Bros. Movie.
The sound that came out of me was just this high-pitched shriek,” the actress stated. The actress said in another part of the interview that she sings karaoke to the song “Tribute” by Black’s band Tenacious D. “Tribute” was written by Black.
According to what she told Buzzfeed, “We haven’t met each other because we all recorded our parts individually. As a result, I was extremely starstruck when I saw the schedule for today.” “That doesn’t happen to me very often, but earlier I was just running around like ‘oh my God, Tenacious D, this is amazing.'”
Before moving to London with her family when she was six years old, Taylor-Joy spent her early childhood years in Argentina. She said that she “refused to learn English for two years when we moved to London hoping to send my family back home.” This was back in the year 2016.
She reflected on the experience by saying at the time, “It was tough, but at the same time it has given me a sense of displacement that actually really suits the life that I’m living now.” I don’t really feel like I belong anyplace, which is ironic since it makes me feel like I belong everywhere.
