A good Samaritan in Texas noticed a stray dog guarding a litter of pups and believed the dog was the babies’ mother. She made this assumption after seeing the dog in a parking lot. The lady was completely unaware that the dog was male or that he was in no way connected to the pups in any way.

According to an experienced rescuer named Leslie Hennings, it is not unheard of for strays to guard pups that they find on the street.

Hennings was quoted in The Dodo as saying, “There are a lot of dog fights among strays because of food.” They just do not have enough food.

“shielding them in every way he could,” as Hennings put it, the adult dog positioned himself in front of anybody he judged to be a danger to his adoptive litter so that he might defend them from other strays.

But, the older dog, who seemed to be so tough, was really terrified, and he need protection for himself.

“He was putting up a brave face as if to say, ‘No one’s going to harm my babies,'” Hennings said. “He wasn’t going to let anybody hurt his puppies.” But when it was time to go, he hid behind a vehicle and refused to come out, so they had to drag him out.

The terrified dog was eventually apprehended by the lady, and she took him and his litter of pups back to her property as they awaited transportation to their new homes with foster parents.

The woman’s property did not have a fence, but she reasoned that her dogs would remain near the food and blankets she had placed out for them despite the absence of a barrier.

“They just wouldn’t stay,” Hennings said of the pups. Hennings claims that each day that the pups were there, one or two of them made an attempt to escape, but their adoptive father was able to locate them every time.

Hennings said that the children would run away, but their father would eventually find them and bring them back.

A few days later, a group of kind-hearted volunteer pilots volunteered to transport the adoptable father dog and his pups to their temporary home at White Rock Dog Rescue. They are now protected and housed together while they wait together for permanent homes to be found.

The faithful dog and his adorable pups will always remain a family, even if they are not all adopted together at some point in the future.
