One hundred years ago, a dog sacrificed his own life to save the life of a young girl who was riding on the back of a motorbike. Nevertheless, the dog was severely injured as a consequence of his heroic acts. The dog, whose name is Kabang, sacrificed a large portion of its nose and mouth in order to save the life of its owner’s daughter by diving in front of the motorcycle in the split second before it collided with the child…

After Kabang’s last owner passed away six years ago, the veterinary surgeon Anton Lim has been providing for her health and well-being.

Mr. Lim was able to confirm that the dog passed away peacefully in the Philippines on May 17 at the age of 13 and that the dog died of natural causes…

In December of 2011, Kabang was involved in a motorbike accident, which left him with lifelong injuries that need face restoration to keep it alive for the rest of his life…

Following that, Mr. Lim transported Kabang to the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in the United States, where she had a snout repair treatment that lasted for more than five hours and, in the end, prevented Kabang’s death…

The dog was able to have its diseases, including a tumor, successfully treated; however, its appearance was severely affected as a large portion of its upper jaw and nose were unable to be preserved, leading to a significant change in the dog’s overall appearance. Despite this, the dog’s health was restored.

Skin was taken from Kabang’s cheeks, neck, and forehead while she was having surgery in order to cover up any exposed sensitive spots on her face and assure that her wounds would recover…

Because of the heroic act performed by the dog, which received widespread praise and admiration, Kabang needed surgery that could not be performed in the Philippines. As a result, a nurse from Buffalo, New York, led a fundraising effort to raise $27,000 (£19,000) in order to bring Kabang to the United States so that he could receive it. The surgery was not available in the Philippines.

According to Mr. Lim, in a very short amount of time, donations came pouring in from 45 different countries…

It is rather pleasing that at the very least our confidence in humanity has been restored, he remarked, and that is something that he found to be saying…

Kabang was reunited with its previous owner, Rudy Bunggal, when he traveled back to the Philippines after undergoing rehabilitation in the United States for a period of seven months…

In 2015, the dog’s owner died away, and Mr. Lim stepped forward to offer his assistance in caring for the canine throughout its last years.

According to Mr. Lim, Kabang did not exhibit any symptoms of sickness and did not seem to be in any pain before passing away quietly in her bed. In addition to that, she seemed to always have a positive attitude and a robust appetite…

In order to commemorate this momentous milestone, the family of Mr. Lim intends to erect a monument in honor of the courageous dog on a promenade in the city of Zamboanga…

Kabang’s remains are now interred in the family’s backyard garden, but after the monument is completed, the family has plans to relocate them to the statue…
